Do you qualify for student loans?

In the grand scheme of things, the tech is inexpensive. I got my ADN there for about $10K (already had some transfer credits). You will make decent money once you graduate, and can pay off the loans in a few years--there's also a state program that will pay back approx $1,500 per year if you work in a hospital or nusing home (but they only pay *after* each year of service).

Get on the financial aid office's butt! They are there to help you and they should help you find a way to do this--even if the only way is by borrowing the $$. It will be worth it!

I agree with the others with regards to student loans... I just graduated from the Concord tech and just had to get loans, but I also applied for scholarships. Check in with your financial aid office soon and ask for applications for scholarships that you may apply for, they are very helpful...

I agree with the others. Did you fill out the FAFSA?

If you have decent credit, you can apply for a private loan.

I would speak w/ someone in your financial aid office and get the ball rolling w/ loans. I'm sure they'll give you a bit of time to get your loan stuff squared away. Plus, if you're starting in Sept, then you have plenty of time to do all this!

Why would you expect to attend college without paying for it?

If you can't make arrangements in time for this semester, perhaps you could request deferred enrollment until the fall to enable you to meet with a financial counselor, apply for loans, grants, financial aid, etc. and get a better idea of the amount of money you will have to personally contribute to your education over the next 2-4 years. College is expensive, and requires thoughtful planning. If you don't take the time to do it now, you will face this same panic every semester.

You should be able to get some student loans going part time, as long as you take at least 6 credits. How about changing your full time job for one in a hospital. A lot of hospitals will help pay for employees to further their education to become nurses for a commitment to work. Some hospitals will pay non-employees to become nurses with a longer time commitement. There are several options out there, you need to find them all and see which one fits you the best. Good luck in getting to were you want to go.

Talk to a credit counselor. Seriously.

And contact social services. You should be eligible at least for WIC, food stamps, any number of things that will help ease your burden a little.

I went back to school very late in life and was, like you, "stuck" for years due to that being self-supporting through my own contributions thing. But situations change.

Again, look outside of school and directly to AFDC, WIC, etc. for help right now. AND TALK TO A CREDIT COUNSELOR AT A NOT-FOR-PROFIT. They can get you out of debt and to a good credit rating.

You should still be able to get student loans even if you are part time. Fill out the FAFSA and it will ask you if you want to be offered student loans, check yes and you will get them more than likely...

Also nursing school IS full time... I know it is deceiving when you see NU101, it seems as though you are just signing up for one class, but its more. You will have 2 days of clinical, a lab day, and 2 days of lecture. Normally nursing school is 4-5 days a week unfortunatlly. On the other hand I also had to work while attending nursing school and worried how I would squeeze work in, but I did it, worked my schedule aroud it, and now I'm done.

I remember when i first started thinking about college several years ago, I was like you, very very overwhelmed and had no idea where to start. It can be done if you put your heart in it and take somem of our advice... start with that FAFSA and make sure you check off student loans are acceptable and take it from there.

And one more thing... How many of the general class do you have done, like english, anatomy, micro etc...?

I got student loans working full time on an RN's salary and going to school "half time", which is two classes a semester or six credit hours.
