  1. hi jackiejane,

wow this is great info!! thank you so much for all your help!! when i went to the school, all the students were off due to a holiday, so i was not to get any advice from them. but i am so glad you were able too!! i just can't wait to be done with this semester, i am taking physiology and micro right now and i cant wait for may so i can apply. well keep me posted and let me know how everything goes with you and if you hear anything and i will do the same . talk to you soon!!
  2. hi tim,

yes all you need to do is go to the web site and click on rn-bsn program, that will tell you all the pre-reqs required for the program. also you need at least a 60% on all the teas sections. i am choosing this school due to the length of time. i have not looked at any other schools besides this one in nevada. ca waitlists are just too long . and unfortunatley i can not afford to wait. let me know if you have any more questions! good luck!
  3. Hello,

I am just about finishing up my first semester at Touro Nevada so I can answer any questions you guys have about curriculum, school life, etc.

Your first semester classes will be your basics: Foundations of Nursing, Pharmacology and Health Assessment. Each course is about 3 hours long. Foundations is a clinical course so you have a lab component too. For the first semester you will stay at one location on the medical-surgical department. You will begin clinicals starting around the 8 weeks (first 7 weeks is lab training, but lab will be throughout the semester). Clinical will only be once a week from 6:30am-2:30pm (unless changed). Health Assessment will also have lab time so you can practice your assessment skills (2 hr class, 2 hr lab).

Because it is an accelerated program (16 months in 4 semesters) with a fair amount of holidays (Jewish school) a lot of information is not covered in class and it is expected that you go over it yourself so prepare for self-study. The professors for those classes are very fair, though. They provide helpful study guides and answer any questions you have. Overall, I think the curriculum is good, I study a fair amount but not the point of exhaustion, but maybe because it's only the first semester. During the second semester you will have two clinical courses so two clinical days and four classes. Time flies, though, I'm surprised four months have passed already!

Femflores1 - I'm not sure what you mean by camp, but maybe it's the orientation? We have a two-day orientation which lasts about 6-8 hrs a day and you are introduced to the faculty and staff as well as given more information about the school and program. I thought that communication was pretty slow when I was accepted. Expect to hear from ------ about a month or less before classes start, by then she will email you the class list and admissions paperwork. She can't be blamed though, she handles admissions to all the colleges!

In regards to a previous post, they have canceled the ELMSN program (I had applied to it but it ended the year I was admitted) but they do have an online MSN program which you have an option of applying to after your 16 month BSN program. I'm not sure how long the online MSN program is though, since there was a lot of updates to the school programs. I think it's 1.5-2 years.

    Hope this clarifies any concerns!

  4. hi empyreal,

wow you are a lifesaver!! thank you so much for all the insight!! so did you find out right away that you were accepted into the program? or did it take a while? also do you have to have a high gpa to get in? it's great to hear that the teachers are fair and the people are nice at the school . how do you like henderson? i am moving out from california so this is a big move for me, but i am excited about touro!! once again thanks for everything, you have been awsome!! talk to you soon!!
  5. Hi KK4YOU,

I don't think you need too high of a GPA, they list 2.75 as their minimum so as long as you meet that you should be okay. Of course, being as competitive as possible is a plus I was accepted really early when they started reviewing the applications. For November start they review their applications in April and was accepted around May. I had originally applied to the ELMSN, though, but that year the program ended so they transferred my application to the BSN program instead. Some people were accepted up to a week or two before classes began because of the rolling admissions!

Living in Henderson is pretty nice. I found a great apartment at a very nice price ($482) which is about 10 mins from school, 10-15 mins from airport and the strip and next to lots of good stores. The air here is very nice, too. You are starting in July, right? It will be incredibly hot when you get here. I visited during that time to look for apartments and the temperature went up to 117 degrees!

The move itself wasn't too bad. I drove from San Jose, CA bringing only my bare essentials and what else I could fit in my car. I think you will enjoy it here, TUN is an awesome school. When you begin I will be in my third semester so I'll see you around! So if you have any questions I'm here for ya.

And congratulations on your acceptance to Touro!
  6. hi empyreal,

thank you for all the great information! its so nice to finnaly talk to someone who is actually in the program and knows how it all works! i am applying for the november start date, i didn't know about july. what is the schedule for the program? is it like 8-5 monday-friday with all jewish holidays off? just trying to get an idea so i can start planning . also have you heard anything about remmington canyon apartments? i am planning on moving there, rent is so cheap and it looks nice. just wanted to see if you have heard good things about it. well take care and i will talk to you soon!!!
  7. KK4YOU-

You're very welcome ^_^ Classes are M, T and F between 8:30-noon, and clinical/labs are W/Th (depending on which group you are in). Clinical is once a week so whatever day you have clinical, you won't be in lab and vice versa. So, if you have clinical on W you go to lab on Th. Clinicals are 6:30am-2:30pm, lab on W/R are 8:30-11:30. You will be in class/lab/clinical M-F, and pretty much finish by 12-3pm.

Remington Canyon Apts are very nice but extremely expensive. It is literally across the street from Touro, though, if you're willing to pay the extra money to stay there. I believe rates go from $750-850 for a one bdrm/one bath apt with a Touro discount. The place I am staying at is only $482 (with a 10% student discount) and 10min drive from school, 10-15 mins from LV Airport and the strip. I love my location since it's nearby everything, and the 10min drive goes by quickly.

Touro accepts applicants on a rolling admission basis so I'm sure you can still apply to the July start date if you are interested in that. I didn't know about the July start date (I told them I wanted the fall start which I thought was July, but was November) so I was a bit bummed because I could have started sooner.
  8. hi empyreal,

wow thats great! what is the name of the apartment complex that you are at? i will not be working while i am in school, so i need the best deal i can get lol. also would you say that as long as you have a good gpa and passed the teas test you will most likley get it? i am just so excited, i hope i get in! talk to you soon! i will ask about july start date .
  9. I am at Wildhorse Estates. The person I went through is very nice about arranging the best deal. Also, mention my name, Lisa Nguyen as your referrer if you do go there. From what I heard the apt has stopped doing the 10% discount but she has been honoring it for those that I referred from Touro.

If you really want to start as soon as possible, why don't you see if you can still get admitted for the March 1 start date. It is in 2 weeks but I have a classmate who was admitted a week or two before classes began so maybe you'll be lucky. I also heard from my professors that the March cohort is smaller than mine so maybe they'll accept some more people. You'll get a four month head start =P
