For 3 or more weeks, I've been told that I had the job I applied for. Met with the unit staff, the nurse manager, the whole deal. The job 's mine. Definately. But since that time, no word. Nothing in writing. No heads up about when I'm expected to start. I call HR and am told that someone in administration is dealing with some detail or details. They would for sure contact me before t-giving. Then, gosh... what with the short work week and all, they just couldn't get to it. So, they would definately get back to me this week. But, of course, they did not. Now HR says they don't know what's become of that paperwork and no one is quite sure when things will become official.

How can this be right? Is this any way to run a business?

I just have one question here. When the person responsible for this bottleneck becomes my patient on the unit... and he or she needs some analgesic, can I say... "sure! You can have that dilaudid. No problem. I'll be back to you on that w/in 10 minutes. Ten minutes tops. Trust me." An hour later can I say "Gee, I'm not sure who was supposed to give you that pain med. I'm looking into it though. Don't worry." And an hour after that... "hey, you know, what with shift change and all, we just didn't have time to address your issues, but I'll pass your request on to the appropriate person."

You get the picture!

Wonder if they're this sloppy and inconsiderate with all their hires or just with nurses.

Hey- Keep us posted on this- I'm just starting the interview process with them and this is very interesting to me...

would love to know what department this is, too!

Good luck and hang in there-I've spoken to many people working there and most really like their jobs, but there are a few departments that are not as great as others...

Hi Pine and Tulip, when I lived in Reno, I worked at both Washoe Med and St. Mary's. Both of them were good hospitals at the time. I worked at Washoe in my last year of nursing school and as a new grad on the integrated nephrology/med/surg unit. While the staffing left alot to be desired at the time, I learned a great deal and got my baptism of fire there. At both St. Mary's and Washoe Med I worked with alot of great people. Just hang in there. Find out who the clinical managers are on the units you want to work and just keep calling them until you get a response. Good Luck!!!

No word yet. I've been calling and e-mailing. If they would just tell me "no" it wouldn't be such a bad thing. I'd just look elsewhere for a position. But to tell me NOTHING is rather bad manners to say the least.
