HI

I am looking into nevada nursing schools for their BSN programs for the 2008 school year. CAn anyone tell me anything about Univ of Southern Nevada?

Also, do all the schools out there require that you take prerequisites prior to being admitted into the nursing programs? I presently live in Pennsylvania and I dont think that is the case here necessarily. ]

thanks

I know that it is very expensive, around $30k. They do require pre-reqs and as far as I know all of the RN programs here in Las Vegas do as well.

Yes, USN is very expensive and hasn't received its national accreditation yet. As for nursing prereq's all of the programs out here require that you complete them first before being accepted into the upper division nursing major. However, many, including my school, Nevada State College, will admit you to the Prenursing major to complete your prereq's. I'm from PA, and even with the out of state tuition, Nevada schools tend to be a good deal.

Very very expensive, and they are still under provisional improvement. In fact, the NV State Board of Nursing doesn't even list pass-rates or other statistics on Univ. of Southern NV.

i went to usn for interview on march 15 and my impression about this school is good. I love the school. the staffs are friendly and helpful. Although this school is still provisional accredited, i am confident that this school will get accredited.

Did you apply anywhere else? Did you get a decision back yet from USN? I've applied there also, as well as at Nevada State. USN is expensive compared to the state schools but when I looked at who they employ to teach the classes I was really impressed. Their dean of nursing has a doctorate in nursing and a law degree. Most of their nursing staff have extensive experience in teaching. It might be worth the cost in the long run. I asked and I guess they haven't graduated a class yet so that's why they're on provisional still with the state and still a candidate with national. At this point I'm just waiting to see where I get accepted and decide what I am doing from there. PS - I haven't interviewed there yet, any pointers?

yes, i got accepted to usn and i have to pay 250 to reserve a seat in the class. this 250 is applicable to your 1st year tuition. i actually got accepted at community college in california after a year of waiting but i think it's worthwhile because the title will be in BSN. The reason i do not apply other state school is because the wait. The waitlist is so long wherever you go,besides i am an international student and the fee is not much different than the regular one. During the interview in USN, you will be asking about communication, leadership, compassion, problem-solving skill, motivation. I guess you dont have any problem with the interview because i asked one of the professors that so far they accept all the students.

What was your entrance GPA may I ask? I'm concerned because according to their calculations I only have a 3.33. When does the program in August start? Sorry for all the questions. I just don't want to be a pest and constantly call USN. I don't want to seem like I am a nursing program stalker.

Dee

my gpa is 3.4 and i still have one college algebra left which iam taking it right now.You dont have to worry much about GPA. As long as it is about 3.0, i think you will be fine. The program will start on august 20.

I've applied to some other programs, but if I get an interview and like what I see at USN and they accept me I'll see you on August 20! Thanks for all the info. I have the algebra and a soc to do (I'm taking CLEP tests for those in May) but that's it for me. I'm in organic chem right now and doing well so I'm not worried about getting all the prereq's done.

There's someone who posted here that did go to the interview and get accepted. Look at their pointers, they sound like good ones. Why did you apply to USN? Did you apply anywhere else? I also applied to Touro and NSC. I haven't heard from USN yet but I just put my application in. They are expensive though.
