    Hello!

I am a Registered Respiratory Therapist, and my wife is a Filipino trained Registered Nurse.I did a travel contract back in 2005, and the "majority" of the nurses I worked with were Filipino.I don't see a problem if you've been approved by the CGFNS already, and you are RN eligible. They will probably require that you have your RN first. The only bad thing is that "some" hospitals are "not" hiring new grads right now due to budget cuts. You will probably have to sell yourself (skills) to them on your resume.I always tell my wife to emphasize her UST education since UST (1611) is older than Harvard (1638). Most Americans are shocked that by that...and a little jealous.

If you can't get hired by a hospital, you can always try a skilled nursing facility or an acute rehab hospital like Healthsouth.Give it a try.

Keep in mind, that without Filipino nurses in Vegas...the city would shut down, and people would die. Be proud of your education -- its better than most U.S. programs. Most U.S. nurses only have an AS degree, unlike Filipinos who have a BSN.

    I hope this helps.:wink2:

wow Yost70! that was inspiring! I'm also a UST grad and i'm proud to be one!

anyway, I'm also planning to work in Vegas as a nurse but I'm currently having trouble with the application process. I'm kinda confused on the CES, eligibility, and ATT thing. Can you suggest steps on how to process my application?

Another thing, how were you able to migrate there? Are English proficiency exams still required to have a working visa?

Think alot of yourself, don't you. This country grads enough nurses where there should be no need for foreign trained nurses. I highly doubt Vegas would shut down if the Filipinos left. As far as I know, the BSN that Filipinos get back home isn't on par with the BSN gotten here in the states, that is what I have been told by the Filipinos I work with.

CES is with CGFNS and if the state requires it would recommend you get full course by course. Only once you are eligibly and state gives permission will you get ATT and be able to sit the exam. They will not give it until you meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse. English exams are a requirements for visa screen certificate and you are the one looking for a work visa. Be aware with current retrogression there is a several years waiting for a work visa so may want to consider something else. I would suggest a good read in the International forum under the region tab above.

I don't think the city would shut down...
but many of the hospitals would really be hurting!!!

My experience with my Filipino peers are just like American-educated nurses: Some are amazing, others not.
I do personally work with several that are fantastic nurses.

My hospital has many, many working in our ICU and in or ORs. We would be in deep lack-of-staff "do-do" without them!
