Question about UNLV

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

OK here goes... I took MATH 124 at UNLV and only got a C grade.

Problem one: I need a B grade.

Problem two: I already took the class three times (once I dropped and the other time I failed).

Problem three: UNLV only allows you to take the class twice to get a B grade. "a grade of B (3.00) or above must have been earned in either the first or second enrollment (an audit counts as an enrollment) in the following prerequisites course: Fundamentals of College Mathematics (MATH 120) or College Algebra (MATH 124)"

I was wondering if I'd be able to take MATH 120 and use it to fulfill this requirement? What do y'all think?

sorry. they didn't score 103 on the hesi. they had 103 points overall to get into the program. that included the hesi score, total points for attempts on classes and science gpa. last semester the points ran from 84-103. But it is all based on the pool of students. I didn't get a 93 on the hesi but on the grammar and vocabulary portion. I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed!! I don't want to wait another semester to get in:-)

lol.. that's what I was thinking... =D.. well.. I finally decided to calculate my score and if I get at least 75 (which I have to) on the grammar.. I would get a 101.8!!??!??! .. I think.... I think I calculated it correctly... for the hesi part... add overall hesi + 4 other scores divided by 8.75 right?.... ehhhh.. that's making me feel too confident. Not a good sign.. I might have calculated it wrong... yeah that's it...

By the way.. how did you find out about last semester's statistics? I kept asking the nursing department to give me the statistics they keep telling me.. it varies every semester. Which I know is true... but I kept asking what was the lowest score they accepted and they never gave me a straight answer.. =( ... I invested so much time and money trying to get into UNLV.. I really hope it pays off... I mean.. I could be on break right now if I want to transfer to one of the Universities here in California.. but instead, Im taking 13 units, paying out of state tuition, and hesi testing expenses.... sighhh.. I would be crushed... yeap... I really really want to go to UNLV... ='[

i know. i hear you. I am taking classes I really don't need and wasting money at the same time. I think if you have a total of 101 points you should definitely get in. If someone finished all their classes, had a perfect 4.0 gpa and got a perfect score on the hesi they would have 112 points. the total points possible for the hesi is 57 after you divide your score by the 8.75. So 101 would be great. I have 94 total. Due to some bad advising, i wasn't told to retake a class I got a bad grade in over 10 years ago. So that was tough. The only reason I know about the range of scores is due to a girl at my session. She said her friend told her. So who knows. But it does change every semester based on the applicants. I would be extremely disappointed if i didn't get in for a 2nd time. And it is not like i am a bad student. I have only taken my classes once and passed with all B's. So we shall see what the pool of students look like this time around. And like you...i really want to go to unlv too:-)

Sorry took me a while to respond to this. My old laptop broke and now I got the new macbook! It's pretty amazing. =D.. Anyway.. I just finished my Grammar test couple hours ago and I got a 92!! you did better than me! hehe.. well, I really appreciate you telling me these statistics. True, it depends on the pool of students but at least a have a better idea this time.. I have yet to find a place to live in Vegas. I have never even been in Vegas. I have a lot of planning to do, so knowing my chances is really important so I can plan accordingly. So, now I have a total of 104...s:rolleyes: Here in Cali, they don't accept Science grades taken 5 years ago. Bad advising can really ruin you. I've had some bad advising myself 3 years ago. Wasted 1 semester taking classes I don't really need. I think that we both have a really good chance!... I guess we're supposed to find out by Mar. 22?!.... =D...

Oh I forgot to mention.. you know when you look at our Hesi A2 test results online, there's a class average --- I was told that that's the average for all UNLV pre-nursing students who took them... Another thing that makes me feel good... all my scores were above avg... I just wonder how many students actually took them... hmm

wow. 104. that is awesome! That is the highest i have heard of so far. I hope I have a chance like you say I do. I cannot imagine trying for a 2nd time and not getting in. It's not like I am a bad student:-) i am not sure about the average for the hesi scores. Not sure how often that update that. When I took the test the class average for grammar was 57! That is horrible. I heard alot of the scores are better than the NET. So only time will tell. With your points there is no doubt you will get in. I am still keeping my fingers crossed that 94 points are enough to get me in. We shall see.

Yeah.. I heard that the Hesi was so much easier than the NET. Right now the averages are in the 70s.. still horrible. With that in mind, 94 points should get you through!... Like you mentioned, last sem's range was 84-103.. Well.. soon we'll find out... :o .

I know. I can't wait to find out. I feel so stressed and nervous. I just want to know already. These next few weeks are going to be brutal! That would be cool if we both get in. Then we can stress out together for the next 16 months!

haha! That would be a thrilling kind of stress!.. I don't mind stressing for 16 months as opposed to 3 YEARS! here in cali! pfft.

hehe.. can't wait! =']... sighhh...

I know. How crazy are we that we are wanting that stress! We are some type of crazy:-) My friend said as much as she loves learning all she can she is extremely tired and stressed out. It is certainly not easy and definitely not for lazy people. I will probably have to work too...bye bye life! :-)
