New grad rn in las vegas, nevada

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Nursing in May of 2009 and passed the NCLEX RN in July. I have been searching everywhere for a facility in the Las Vegas area that is willing to hire a new graduate and have had no luck at all. I can't even find ONE upcoming new grad program. It is very discouraging. :crying2: Has anyone else in the area had this same problem or does anyone have any advice or inside information that I may be missing? Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated :redpinkhe

I just got hired at UMC in the Peds. department. I just got a email from the nurse recruiter at St Rose- siena campus they just posted for their New grad Rn program. Its A Nurse residency program. You should apply ASAP. You never know how long they will have it posted. Good Luck.

Congrats! That is so awesome that you got a job. Any advice on how to get a job or anyone who is hiring new grads? I still have not been able to find anything and I am getting so discouraged. Any help woule be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Heads up to the St Rose "residency" program dreamers....200 people are applying for each position. If you hate Las Vegas then it might be time to look at other areas, if your single go some where you might have always dreamed of, or even possibly joining the Air Force.

The VA will be hiring if that hospital ever finishes, but lips seem to be locked on the hiring criteria for that hospital and if they are going to be using new grads. From the looks of it they won't be even opening till 2012.

Don't get discouraged yet you still have many chances after you get your first job to do that and if your not doing hospital work then start looking into getting your LPN for some sort of experience. Good luck.

hi .....new lpn grad and passed nclex.....i worked at mountain view hospital as a cna for many years so when i graduated from pn school my work just did a lateral transfer and trained me as a lpn.....i presently work med surg and pcu...there were 32 people in my graduating class and we all found jobs pretty quick.....

southwest medical, kindreds, north vista are big into hiring lpns.....

i wouldnt work for st. rose anyways.....alot of complaints from the nurses....st rose is natourious for cancelling people shifts......so they can shove that rn program where the sun dont shine....lol.....

I haven't read all of the posts, so I don't know if anyone mentioned relocating, but sometimes you gotta relocate to find work. I relocated from Cali to Texas in May of last year to find work, and it was soooooo worth it!!!!! Lots of hospitals have relocation assistance programs which give you several thousand dollars to aid in whatever relocation expenses you may have. Try checking out other states.:twocents:

Just curious, whats your update? Have you found anything in Vegas yet? Where have you applied? I am a BSN student here in Vegas and I'm wondering if anything has improved?

6 months applying everywhere with no luck. Advise make your contacts while still doing clinicals. It comes down to who you know.

uugh so sorry. I know you are not the only one. I'm a little freaked about it. If you dont mind, where did you do your clinicals? I will take your advise about making contacts...what else would you do differently that I can still do? Any specific location (hospital or specialty) for clinicals you would recommend?

Sorry I can not be of help my schooling was in another state. I would focus though if you do your clinicals at the major hospitals...Sunrise hospital, Valley Health Systems, Kindred etc.

RN LAS VEGAS, try applying within the Valley Health Systems. I graduated in December 2010 from Nebraska, moved to Vegas after graduation, applied for jobs in April within VHS, and got hired within the same month. I started the new grad program in May and there were 30 other new grads in my class. They seem to still be hiring more new grads so please don't stop trying. You may be the next lucky new grad to be hired! Good luck :)

Did you have your Nevada license before you applied to VHS? I am wondering if I should obtain a Nevada license.
