Anyone here applying for fall? :)

Hi everyone.. I am also applying for the fall 2013 semester. I only have 26 points though so I am a little nervous about getting accepted :/ but I do hope to meet you guys soon :) good luck to all of you!

Thank you Christina for you input!! It is greatly appreciated!! I am bummed I didn't put my application in for Spring if they accepted scores of 9. I had 9 points but was just finishing up the other 20 points (224,251,Com) when the application was due. I didn't think I would get accepted :( Now I am just killing time waiting for Fall! I can't wait! Super excited!! Good luck to everyone that is applying!

I had heard the point requirement was low for the last session, but I didn't know it was that low!! wow!! Thanks for all the info. Very helpful.

I'm thinking that the low turnout (only about 125 applied total for full-time & part-time!) which in turn lowered the minimum points was due to them only accepting TEAS v while in the past they took iv & v. From what I understand, the TEAS v was much harder and less people were passing. I know it was hard as heck for me and I did not pass it the first time around! But the 25 point cutoff that they have told you might have only applied to the people who were admitted during the initial acceptance without alternates. I know for sure that someone in my class who had 24 points was chosen as an alternate at first and then about a month after the initial acceptance, they were accepted. I also have a feeling that we will get different info depending on the day :p. They also extended the application period by about 6 weeks but still considered the original applicants first. All of these factors could have affected the probability of being accepted and the range of points. Who the heck knows what will happen this time around!

Good luck all!

Yes but I have to take the TEAS first @ CSN of Las Vegas, Im very nervous because last time I took the test I was only off by 10 points. Does anyone recommend better test taking skills? I havent took the test since it was the NLN Exam, and CSN recently changed the RN pre-entrance exam to the TEAS V exam. Anybody recommend any studying brushing up to do since 2010? I havent studied fpr the test simce then any recommendations? Im super scared.....

You guys are awesome thanks for all the info! Ok so I went to drop off my packet today and she did say I need a copy of high school transcript so I will return tomorrow with everything lol. From looking at the Fall 2012 thread for CSN it looks like they found out if they had been accepted the first week of May and from what I have read they were saying that was a week late so who knows! Also for the TEAS exam I used the ATI book and increased my overall score by 10% from when I took it the first time without studying... Increased 35% in science! Use the ATI book it's great! Well I love that this group is forming so we can be maniacs together waiting to get accepted!

I took the TEAS before I had taken 223 or 224 and managed to get a good enough score to not have to take it again! I was most worried about math (I HATE math), but I actually did the worst on English! It's my first (and only!) language, so I guess I didn't worry as much about it when I should have. As whisman says above, I would 100% recommend the ATI book. Many of the questions were the same or remarkably similar. I had other study books as well, but they were totally different. I just took a few weeks to study the ATI book, take the practice tests, etc. it worked out great for me.

I would recommend the ATI TEAS book. I got it from amazon (used) for much less than what the ATI site sold it for. Study everything in that book and you should be fine. When do you plan on taking the TEAS?

I did the worst in English too! Both times! I was so shocked but it makes sense because I haven't learned that kind of stuff in MANY years. I only used the ATI book and I feel like it worked well for me. I didn't do great (76%) but at least I passed each section! And I took it after taking all of my pre/co reqs. I think that helped especially for the science sub test.

I am thinking about starting to buy some of the supplies we need instead of buying them all at once later.... Anyone else thinking about doing this (or am i crazy?!). christina731, do you have any suggestions on what to get/not get/good brands/etc?

On the TEAS my English score was my lowest score also! Although overall I did well (84%). And on the math I only missed 1 question!!

I honestly wouldn't but anything until you're accepted but some of the things that they require are:

-stethoscope (I got a Littman II SE for like $65 and it's engraved)

-bp cuff

-scrubs for lab (any color/style - I have Dickies and they are cheap and comfy) & some kind of closed shoes/sneakers

-white shoes & socks for clinical (I made the investment and got Danskos and they are great!)

-clipboard for clinical (the kind that opens up so you can store papers inside)

-pen light

-watch with second hand (I recommend one that is water resistant and easy to clean [i.e. not one with a leather or fabric strap] you don't know what someone will get on you)

-bandage scissors

-black pens

-gait belt (not every clinical instructor requires one - mine does)

-simple calculator (not scientific or graphing - I got mine for like $3 at target)

-goggles

-just fyi all of your books will come in a bundle for about $725 for hard copies + ebooks or about $350 for just ebooks. They will give you a list at orientation with all of the ISBN's and they can be had for much cheaper through amazon/some other book place. You just don't get ebook access but I really don't care for the platform they use for ebooks. I wish I did not buy from the bookstore...they rip you off SO bad!

-your clinical uniform will be all white and they will be selling them at orientation

not required but nice to have:

-rolling backpack (the books will kill your back) I got this one and it's great: JanSport - Product Detail for DRIVER 8

-flesh colored undies/bra for under clinical uniform

-laser printer (I got one for $40 at Fry's and each cartridge costs about $60 but you can print like 2000 pages and it is much faster than an inkjet printer. You will be killing quite a few trees - the syllabi for fundamentals & pharm are darn near 200 pages. I also print all the power point slides to study with)

-extra nametags to keep in your car/spouse's car/purse/backpack. You will get a 3% deduction from your overall lecture grade if you show up without it on. Meaning if you finish the semester with a 77% and you forget your nametag to the final exam you will fail the class (75 is passing) don't make that mistake! You can get them from the bookstore and they will rip you off or you can get them at a trophy store. I got ripped off. Don't go to the bookstore :p

As you can tell I do not like the bookstore and I would not recommend getting stuff there if you can help it. I don't know how may times I have schepped all the way across town (I don't live anywhere near campus) for something they said they had in stock only to find out that they don't have it. Amazon has the student prime account for $40/year and they give you free 2 day shipping on most items if not all. That's where I got most of my supplies & supplemental books and I have never paid for shipping and get everything super fast.

Umm I can't think of anything else now but I'll post again if I remember something else. I should be sleeping or studying now since those activities consume my life :p
