CSN RN Fall 2012

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

Hi Everyone!

I am new to the site and will be applying to CSN's RN program in March. I wanted to start a thread and see who will be applying with me and how things are coming along for everyone. :) I have all pre-reqs completed with a pre-req GPA of 3.58. I took the TEAS about a month ago and I passed, but wasn't thrilled with my score, particularly in science. I got an adjusted individual total score of 74.7%. Reading: 92.9%, Math 70%, Science 60.4%, and English & Language Usage: 76.7%. I barely passed the science portion and have signed up to take the TEAS one more time in February. With my current TEAS score, I have a total of 29 points for my application. I'm really hoping to get a better score and another point or two from the second TEAS!

Please let me know if you'll be applying in this cycle. I'd love to exchange advice and information and just connect with *hopefully* some future classmates! :)

Hey,

I'll be applying to the Fall 2012 RN part-time program. Are you going full time or part-time? Right now I have 27 points and I'm going to retake the TEAS test to hopefully get another point before March 1. I was an alternate for Spring 2012 but didn't make it. I'm hopeful for next time.

I'm going for full-time. I've had a bit of a difficult time because all of my credits are transfers from my college in Florida. I think I have everything in order and all my sciences are being re-evaluated right now...I don't think there will be a problem with them transferring as equivalents to CSN's bio, micro, and a&p classes, but that's honestly my biggest worry! Good luck on your next TEAS, hopefully this will be the cycle for both of us to make it in! :)

For those who have already been accepted into CSN's program, there is a mandatory orientation upon acceptance, correct? Does anyone know what month they usually hold that orientation in for the fall semester? I'm trying to plan a trip out of state in the summer and certainly don't want it to interfere with that orientation if I do make it in this semester.

Also, I've had all necessary immunizations for the program, but do not have my shot records. I've learned that you can go to a physician and have them do a blood test to prove you have indeed been vaccinated and are protected against the certain diseases (mumps, chicken pox, etc) if you aren't able to locate your shot records. Does anyone know of a physician or lab around Las Vegas that provides this service? We just moved here recently and I haven't found a general practitioner yet, but would they be able to do it for me when I do find one?

Hey Kebby! What u are referring to is called a Blood Titer Test... The Vaccine Center (google it!) offers them at a great price for those who don't have such tests covered by insurance... Hope that helps!

I ditto the Vaccine Center! And your first orientation will be sometime in May, usually! Then another shortly before school starts.

Thank you very much for the info! My vaccines have taken place in 2 different states by 3 different physicians over the years. One has been retired for years and one passed away about 6 or 8 years ago, so I think I'm going to run into some difficulty trying to gather all the records. The titer test is probably going to be my best bet! Thanks! :)

They will give you all of the information you need re: vaccinations, titers, where to get them, etc. during the first orientation. I'm sorry but I don't know when it is b/c my first semester was Spring 2011 (I begin 3rd semester next week). Anywhoo, I was accepted into the FT program with 29 pts. Obviously I can't speak to what the student pool looks like for Fall 2012 since every semester is different, but 29 points is pretty high.

I am starting to get really nervous! I submitted my science courses for re-evaluation back in early December because I was told the process could take up to 10 weeks. After submitting them as instructed through the registrar's office, I was then given different instructions in the nursing office and was told to submit there in the nursing dept and that they would send them on to the science dept. So I also submitted them that way. About 3-4 weeks ago, I checked MYCSN and my biology and microbiology had been re-evaluated and properly posted, but my A&P 1 and 2 courses still have not been done and they were all submitted at the same time! I went to the school earlier this week and submitted the course descriptions for a third time now, this time I took them directly to the science department myself. About 3 weeks ago, I also had the chair of the political science dept sign off on a course I had taken that is equivalent to the US Constitution course required by CSN. I was told they would submit to the registrar's office to have my transferred course updated. This has yet to appear on MYCSN. I'm getting really anxious and worried that these courses will not post by the time the deadline rolls around for nursing apps. It's getting a little frustrating...I definitely feel like I've gone about things the right way and allowed for an appropriate amount of processing time, but now it's less than a month til apps are due and these courses still have not been updated! :-/ I'm just so anxious to have things all in order and to get my application turned in!

Well, I'm obviously still having some issues with my transfers so I haven't turned mine in yet. Per one of the evaluators at the Cheyenne campus, my A&P courses were signed off on as acceptable subs for the A&P courses here, so she said it's just a matter of them being updated online. I'm checking MYCSN about every hour! :-p I attended one of the limited entry application workshops on Tuesday and while in the nursing building, I saw 2 people hand in their applications. I'm getting so anxious! I just wish the courses would be posted already so I can get this application packet off my hands and in theirs! :) Good luck to you Bea!
