CSN RN Fall 2012

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

Hi Everyone!

I am new to the site and will be applying to CSN's RN program in March. I wanted to start a thread and see who will be applying with me and how things are coming along for everyone. :) I have all pre-reqs completed with a pre-req GPA of 3.58. I took the TEAS about a month ago and I passed, but wasn't thrilled with my score, particularly in science. I got an adjusted individual total score of 74.7%. Reading: 92.9%, Math 70%, Science 60.4%, and English & Language Usage: 76.7%. I barely passed the science portion and have signed up to take the TEAS one more time in February. With my current TEAS score, I have a total of 29 points for my application. I'm really hoping to get a better score and another point or two from the second TEAS!

Please let me know if you'll be applying in this cycle. I'd love to exchange advice and information and just connect with *hopefully* some future classmates! :)

the teacher who teaches it. she is really really tough. she isnt in the state. you have no way of knowing what questions you missed and she isnt the nicest in the world. i had her for 101 and she was not my fav....i got a borderline A/B btw

I called the registrar and they told me I had to physically go down there to register :-(

I also had to go in to the registrar's office to have them change my status from pre-nursing to nursing. I gave them the course numbers I had chosen and they got me registered right then. I am taking the Monday afternoon 2:30-4:20 pharm course. Anybody here taking that particular section? I also signed up for the 1:00-2:30 toolbox course in June. It's been awhile since I took my college math course and I am nervous about those dosage calc exams every semester! Do any previous students have an opinion on that toolbox class? Did you find it helpful?

Does anyone know what blocks were leftover? I'm an alternate, crossing my fingers for a spot. Any alternates heard yet?

I am also wondering about the toolbox class. Math is usually my best subject so I have been told two different things about taking the class. Is the teaching in the toolbox class more instructional than when the actual nursing school teaches it? Is the math that difficult where a person who has taken Algebra/Calculus would not be able to easily understand it without the toolbox class? My main problem is that I am already asking for a lot of help over then next two years with family members watching my kids and I really do not want to ask for even more over the summer. If it is that important though I'm sure I can arrange something. Any information would be appreciated.

oh its not suuuuppper difficult but i would take the toolbox class if you can. if you are familiar with dimensional analysis you will be fine. but the clinical instructors vary on how much instruction and help they give on it.

I chose option #7 for full time and Monday's afternoon pharm. Kebby it looks like we will. E in pharm together. I'm going to be out of town for the toolbox an I'm trying to decide if I need to cancel the trip. I understand the math is dosage calculations & dimensional analysis. I'm not strong with either. I'm a little panicked.

I want the Monday afternoon pharm too. Hopefully it's still open when I go to register tomorrow!

If the online stats are correct it looks like Monday afternoon Pharm has 1 seat left. Hurry hurry!

I'm taking the toolbox. If I remember from Math 100b, drug dosage calculations aren't very difficult but there are a lot of variables. If I have to score over 90% on math test I'm going to need all the help I can get. I'll probably take it again over Christmas, and again in the Summer until I can do it in my sleep!

Also, just curious - those of you who are alternates, how many points did you have?

Hopefully it's still there tomorrow.. It's the first day I will be able to get down to the school :-( *fingers crossed*

All the past nursing students said to take the toolbox class. Does anyone know if you need a book for the class?
