Any colleges near Las Vegas with a waiting list?

yes we have a community college its just called college of southern nevada now. there are a few options for rn: unlv, nevada state college, and torro. there might be more but there is a start for you!

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum. I live in Michigan but may be moving to Las Vegas next year. I'm currently taking my pre-req's at a community college in Michigan. Does anyone know if there are any colleges in Nevada (mainly near las vegas) that has a waiting list instead of the traditional scoring by GPA/Test scores to get into their program?
Also does Las Vegas have a community college? What are my options of schools for my RN degree? I've searched and all I can find is UNLV.
Thanks for any info you can give. :)

on the top of my head...i can think of

1) college of southern nevada (community college)

2) unlv

3) nevada state college

4) touro

5) apollo college

6) university of southern nevada

unlv goes by waiting list....rather, matriculation date....the moment u sign up for their program, that will determine ur spot on when u will get in.....

most schools, like nevada state or apollo, go by gpa and exam scores....

another one is national college or university in henderson.

Only UNLV and CSN has full approval from nursing board.

others are on provisional approval, and they can loose that too in future.

secondaly other colleges are so expensive.

i used to go to unlv until 2005..and thats how it was back then

matriculation date...

minimum of 3.0 gpa

and they never asked to do NET tests

maybe things have changed ever since i left.

i was supposed to start nursing school there but had to "give up my spot" because i couldnt pass the darn anatomy class with a B

LOL, the people who suggested CSN as a community college must not go there! It's now an actual college it wasn't just a name change. It's a college simply because it is able to offer Bachelor's Degree programs, community college's can't do that. Just an FYI

But it's reputably been a hard school to get into either way, and they don't have a waiting list, it is strictly based on GPA, NLN scores and other factors that give you points. Apparently Apollo has an immediate entry program for an Associate's RN and not many requirements, they also finish a lot sooner than the other schools, which is a definite plus. I've seen some graduates from Apollo post here stating their satisfaction with the school, so that might be an option.

Also, University of Southern Nevada is a school that I don't believe was mentioned.

i would first hand know about apollo coz i graduated there...lol

it was definitely easy to get into, but now they r making it harder...due to hundreds of people trying to get in...

so they take in consideration of the gpa and an entrance exam as well.

they r always doing little seminars about the school so definitely contact them if you are interested

it is a small school, but i think it was better for me overall....coming from unlv...and a few months at nsc...

oh...and i knew that csn does offer bachelors...i just wrote community college bcoz that was its former name...

i shouldve wrote the word "formerly"

if i remember correctly...csn gives u a point or so if you worked as a cna before too

thank God for apollo coz i would have never met the criteria to get in school there:banghead:

Hello everyone,

A nursing program to consider is University of Southern Nevada. I am a student there now and am graduating in March 2009. It is a private university and is therefore more expensive, however, it is an 18 month bachelor's program. If you have plans of continuing on to get your masters then USN would be a great option. I know someone going to Apollo and they like it there, however it is an ADN program and is 22 months long. USN was just accredited this year by the NLN, so admissions for the next class (deadline for applying is August 1st) is more competitive, however if you meet the minimum requirements and demonstrate a passion for nursing in your interview, you should have no problem getting accepted. If anyone would like more information, feel free to PM me or reply to this post.

UNLV has changed their system. There are a few students still left in the matriculation system but any new students will be applying and chosen based on GPA and their NET score.

Hi, I just came across this thread. There are various RN programs here that fit different needs.

I myself was at first trying to get into the College of Southern Nevada program. I even have 28 points to apply. It goes by a point system. However, my plans have changed now. :sniff: I want to get a Bachelor's Degree to join the Air Force as a nurse. For CSN, I heard from many people, even though it's a junior college, it is by far the hardest nursing program in the Las Vegas. Some people want to go there and not want to go there for that very reason.

There are some Universities like USN (University of Southern Nevada), Touro University and UNLV to get a Bachelor's degree and higher. Take note, UNLV does not take any science classes less than a B. Another option is Nevada State College with also a Bachelor's program.

My mom :nurse: (graduated from a community college long ago) told me that the private universities might be easier to get through, because they might give you more help and more leniency. You are paying a lot of money to attend them.

Apollo and National are private colleges with associated degree programs CSN is very competitive at the moment and plus I heard the program is no joke, but I heard that they do produce the best nurses here in Vegas.
