<Information about Touro Nevada>

U.S.A. Nevada

hi everyone!

i got accepted to touro nevada today and wanted to know if any students/anyone knew any specifics about the program? i.e. class/clinical scheduling, academic work load, curriculum, and is as ridiculously as complicated/difficult as the faculty made it seem during my interview...i have said before that they made it seem way too tough or either really good, i am still not sure which one to go with! i am excited though and interested in any information, which anybody can pass on! i was told about this specific camp thing that they are doing right before the july start, what is that all about? i still have not been told too much info about it from the college.

well thanks for your insights!

Current pass rates are at least 90%. It won't go down. I only know of 2 people who haven't passed from the last graduating class.

Everything's changed. Most of the issues were leftovers from two cohorts ago.

It's not an AWESOME place to be but probably an all-around solid option for any BSN seeker from CA. 'twas for me. Good luck :)

Hi Oakley44,

Thanks for the reply! Are you also from California? Do you know anyone who graduated from Touro and able to get his/her license to work in California?

Yes. I'm from Socal. I'll be graduating in Feb. Getting a license in CA is not or, is not, going to be a problem as the NCLEX is the same everywhere and the CA State BON reqs are pretty much no different than say Nevada's; Nevada BON's approval is no longer in question and CCNE accreditation is likely to come through just fine.

Do you know the exact 2010 NCLEX pass rate? It's been very hard to find online.

Yes, it's on the Nevada Board of Nursing website under minutes.

Hi BlueEyedGuy,

If I'm not mistaken, Touro's 2010 NCLEX rate was 70% but again, I can't be sure of that. I suggest you calling Nevada State Board of Nursing to find out. Are you planning on applying for Fall 2011?

Hello Oakly44,

I'm also from Socal! Awesome! Hey, thanks for the informative details explained above. So how intense is the program anyway? I just spoke to G at Touro and she said students usually work very hard from day one til the end. What are your thoughts on that? I am an average A sometime a B student. Do you think I will be able to handle it? After all, it is only 16 months for a bachelor degree. I just don't want be too overly confident and ended up losing time and $$$. :)

Folks, I have to say with regard to Touro. The 2010 NCLEX pass rates are NOT an accurate reflection of the school's ability to educate. One only needs to take a look at some of these http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/passrates.shtml to see that there are many schools with NCLEX pass-rate deviations that seem a bit unsettling.

No doubt, in a couple months the 2011 NCLEX pass rate will reflect the changes.

The most effective way to form an opinion of this institution is, to some degree, what you're doing here already. Asking questions is a good thing but make sure you ask them of the admissions department as well as the Nursing department if you can get a hold of them. Then visit the campus and ask about clinical rotations and course requirements - cause those have changed A LOT since I started last October.

Choosing Touro was a Machiavellian choice for me in that it had very little to do with prestige or some sense of pride in my future alma mater. Having earned my BA already, I simply wanted to do it as quickly, and as cheaply as possible at a NON-PROFIT University that is both board approved and accredited. Touro is all of these things and that's about it. It's also hotter than Satan's testicles, and the Campus building's have all the architectural interest of a Super Walmart. Then there's the whole Vegas thing - which is awesome to visiting friend's and relatives and, otherwise, obnoxious to those here trying to study.

good luck

Hi,

Yes. If you don't plan on working part-time, it's very doable. We've only lost a few students in the cohort since 1st semester.

I work an average of only 1 day a week as a CNA and I get by with occasionally difficulty around test times. There are long-ish lunch breaks on non-clinical days. There are 1 to 2 week breaks between each semester and a whole bunch of Jewish holidays. I'd say the program falls somewhere in between say Mount Saint Mary's and any CC in Socal as far as time commitment. It's intense but not insane.

I'm also a CNA and was thinking about working P/T during the program. Now that you have mentioned, I guess I won't work at all. Haha! Good for you! You are more than half done with the program! Maybe I'll see you on campus if I get in this Fall. You've been a great help in answering all my questions. Hope you don't mind me asking more questions in the near future. :D

Hi,

I graduated 2/2011 From Touro Nevada and people from my class have successfully endorsed to other states, including California, and are currently practicing RNs. I'm happy to say our pass rates were awesome =D The low pass rates were from the classes before mine (some had not taken their boards yet so that counted as a "fail" in the percent passed).

As for choosing ADN vs BSN, I would definitely recommend BSN. A lot of hospitals are pushing for BSNs, some require that the minimum level of education be a BSN.
