I did all of my prereq. at WNC. I applied once, didnt get in. My advice is to be very carefull with the advisors. They are not in the nursing department, and we were told something different everytime we went in for "Advisement". My GPA was good enough to get in, but I was give bad advise, and I did not have ENG 102. They told me I had 15 points, and in reality, I only had 11. The cut off to get in was 12 points. If I would have taken 102 I would have got in this year.

I was excepted into Great Basin College, so I went there.

They took forty student the year I applied, and I have heard good things from my friends that are in the program.

You do not have to have a 4.0 to get in, but I would not want to apply without atleast 2 or three A's in the science courses.

Beware of the advisement!

They only start the program in the fall, and I have heard they are offering a BSN program, though I dont know that for sure.

I have heard TMCC is tough, though none are a walk in the park, but TMCC has that rep.

As for point, It changes from year to year. Get as many point as you can, 15 points is almost a sure thing. Anything less and its iffy...

One of my coworkers is a recent May graduate from WNC and she has only made positive comments about her schooling.

I just finished my first semester at WNC and I can tell you it’s by far the hardest thing Ive ever done. The work load is intense and the teachers say about 26% of students don’t make it to the second year. The teachers told us at orientation that they know where all A students but we would have to get us to getting C’s. In fact our motto around hear is a C=RN. To answer your question it is very difficult to get into with about half of the applicants this year being rejected. The person who said 12 was the cut off must have applied a few years ago cause the lowest score that I know of that got in was a 14. The person who got that score was an alternate and said they wouldn’t have gotten in originally but the school found some extra money so they got to go. So with a 15 you could probably get in but I would recommend having a 16 just to be safe. The program is offered once a year in the fall and in my class we had a total of 65 students originally. Oh one thing I forgot to mention is that WNC does not have a BSN program. I had heard there had been some discussions about about implementing it but that was before the economy took a dive.

I graduated from WNC in 2005 (back when it was still WNCC) and I loved my program. All but one of the instructors are the same now as when I was attending and for the most part, they are great. I had several things come up in my private life that made dealing with the stressors of school very difficult. ALL the instructors were wonderful and very understanding. I also had a few friends attending TMCC at this time and they had nothing but frustration and complaints about the lack of support from their instructors. I believe we only lost 2-3 students by graduation and all but one of us passed the NCLEX. I feel the instructors prepared me well for Boards. The instructor for all my science pre-reqs did a terrific job of preparing me for nursing school. I started school with a 3.6 GPA and finished with a 3.4, which is good considering I worked all through school and had 2 small children to deal with while in school. I can't say enough good things about WNC. I truly enjoyed my nursing school experience, although I don't think I would want to do it all over again!! LOL!

Stay AWAY from TMCC. Most of the teachers are completely unhelpful. I am in the program now. I feel as if the teachers don't care about the students at all and, if you have any personal problems, the teachers disregard them. You cannot have ANY problems during school. People have had to miss funerals because the teachers won't let them miss class. There was a student a few years ago who had an emergency appendectomy on a clinical day and had to repeat the whole semester because of emergency surgery. Yes, TMCC has an excellent pass rate on the NCLEX, but the lowest graduation rate in the state. About 50% of the people who get into the program don't make it to graduation. My class started with 48. We now have a maximum of 30... Maybe less.
