Re: What are the best jobs for RN students?
I started out as a Critical Care Tech for my second semester of nursing school that paid $16/hour and then at the end of my second semester applied and was hired for the position of Apprentice Nurse. I worked that position throughout summer and all through my second year of school. When I graduated nursing school, I had been doing the work as an RN for over a year (with the exception of giving meds and suctioning ET tubes...the two things that were out of my scope of practice as an Apprentice Nurse). It gave me a GREAT leg up when I headed out on my own license and I had no problem transitioning into the role of professional nurse. It also paid well (over $17/hr) and I worked two 12-hour night shifts Fri/Sat. It was a great experience and I recommend it to anyone who wants to get some experience under their belt prior to graduation.
