I'm at UNLV right now. The last time I saw a pass rate posted, it was 83%. However, since then the entrance requirements to get into their program have gone up. They require a 3.0 overall, as well as a 3.0 in all math and sciences. This isn't OVERLY difficult, but you can only retake those classes once. After that, you're out of the nursing school permanently.

As for their reputation... I'm not really sure. I know that there is another BSN program at NevdaState College in Henderson, but there are rumors about whether or not they'll get accredited.

I like the program. I really like that once you've completed your pre requisites you're in. There is a small wait list right now, but they are projecting it to be gone inthe summer. You go 4 straight semesters, then you're done (so 16 months total), and a new class starts every fall, spring, and summer. If you hve any other questions, just let me know!!

Hello:
to correct u (hope u don't mind), if u retake and don't have your "B" at UNLV, u have to wait 3yrs to reapply (I know, I got a B- in Micro after my 2nd try, that's why I am currently applying to Nevada State. NSC does have their accreditation, as of last September 2004.) Also, NSC fell under UNR (University of Nevada, Reno) School of Nursing for accreditation, before that. What they meant was that your diploma would say UNR, instead of NSC. But, no worries now! UNR will have their 1st BSN class grad next month! Good luck to all of you graduating in May!

_also, I was told that there was a wait at UNLV...has this recently changed? I had a friend or two that was told they would have to wait up to a yr!

I was living in Las Vegas in 2002, when I decided NOT to go to UNLV for my BSN because of the wait and other reasons like poor boards pass rate.

I moved to Phoenix AZ and got accepted to Arizona State University (I graduate this May) Best decision I ever made. If moving to another state is an option, you may wish to try that. You can always move back (like me).
ASU has around a 93-97% pass rate, as do the community colleges as well.
my 2 cents

I forgot to mention also, that wherever you go, if they do have a not so good pass rate for the boards, see what kinds of programs are in place to change this situation. ASU has the ASU-success program...kind of like a mini-NCLEX each semester to gage your learning and where you need remediation throughout the program. They also pay for a 4-day NCLEX review once you graduate. 100% of persons who attend the 4-day workshop, pass the boards.(in the past)

The Maricopa Community College system, also has a verify high pass rate, and from what I understand will have a BSN available soon, if the AZ legislature passes the bill.

It used to be that you had to wait 3 years to reapply, but they changed that this year. Now if you don't get your B on the second try you're out for good.

As for the wait list, the nursing advisor told me in October that there was a small wait list that should be erradicated after this summer (because this will be the first summer they start a nursing class).

Default Just an FYI
Just thought some of you might like to check out this site. Its the state of nevada board of nursing http://www.nursingboard.state.nv.us/ I just found out through this site that Touro now has provisional approval for MSN as well as USN for BSN. These are private colleges though and I am sure cost quite a bit, but hey, if you get a hospital that wants to pay off your student loans for a 2yr commitment then I guess it really doesn't matter what the tuition is.

I'm attending Nevada State right now and love it. They spent alot of time with individual students and I never feel like I'm lost in a subject.

I am a graduate of UNLV. Before actually starting the program, I attended one of their pre-nursing meetings. I asked about the pass rate for state boards. I was told that it was "subjective." The instructors at my last school frequently mentioned the program's pass rate & how high it was.
My class had a 68% pass rate. Great isn't it.
