TMCC vs WNCC

I have so far been accepted to Truckee Meadows Community College nursing program and am waiting to hear from Wester Nevada (Community) College. I have spoken to several students who have gone through TMCC's program and they all tell me it is hell. I have heard from others that WNC's program is not as tough. (i.e. the teachers are much more helpful). If anyone can offer their suggestions/ experiences with either of these two programs, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Do not!!! I repeat DO NOT go to tmcc. Speaking from experience, you will wish a thousand times over that you choose WNCC instead. I know people at wncc and they are having a good experience with fair and just instructors that are helpful to the students and non-intimidating. You will get the exact opposite at tmcc...please do yourself a favor and take this post seriously...even if you don't get into to wncc the first time around..believe me..it's worth the wait and if I could do things over again, I would have gone there instead.

Wigglyworm is soooooooooooooo right. Save yourself!!! Ive done the research, the NCLEX pass rates don't differ much when you take in to account the actual amount of students graduating. TMCC is working on bettering student success - but I'd wait for that to happen before joining. After apprenticing with WNCC students I realized how much happier they were. They told me the staff is right there with them during clinicals, full of encouragement.

Well congratulations on getting into the TMCC Program.

Did you ever find out if you did get into WNCC?

As in Hell? More like purgatory. No nursing program is without its pitfalls. I graduated from TMCC. Did they properly instruct me? Yes. Were they available when I needed their help? Yes. Were they fair when I myself had a problem? Yes.

If i went to WNCC, I could give you a proper comparison between the two.

TMCC Program is a tough program. That much I can say. If you're not prepared, you will get flak from the instructors. If you do your work, study hard, and are prepared for clinicals, you will succeed. Nursing school was stressful, the formal careplans were super tough and the amount of prep work the day before clinicals, wow.

If i had a second time around to go back to nursing school, um no thanks.

I graduated from TMCC in 1993. Was it tough? You bet it was. I had to do med/surg over twice but I was bound and determined to get my RN and pass NCLEX on the first try so that I would never have to go back to nursing school again and I did that. The night I graduated, a couple of the instructors who were the hardest on me congratulated me and gave me a big hug for pursuing my dreams and told me I would make a great nurse. My aunt graduated from nursing school back in the early 50s up in Idaho and she told me it was rough then too.

Believe me, I have absolutely no problem with nursing schools being hard. In fact, the more difficult and challenging they are, this might possibly make for better nurses in the field. I am not complaining about how "hard" a program is. I do have a problem with the shananagans that go on behind the scenes at TMCC. Very political. Beware!

TMCC's CNA class is tough also, so I am hesitant in even applying there at 41 years old. My husband was scheduled for major surgery after I started and I wanted to make up that one day or come in late, and with a skowl I was asked to have my husband's surgery schedule changed. I had to drop the class.
