I was told by the director of Med Surg that their ratio is 6:1. I am starting a new position on an oncology floor so if you are giving chemo the ratio on that floor is 5:1. They are union and claim they have a good relationship with the union. I do not know much because I haven't started yet but I hope this helps.

where do you work now? What makes it stressful? (i know how stressful it can be but I am just wondering how others feel) I am not currently chemo certified but they asked me if I was willing to be certified and I said yes, so I will keep you posted about how that goes and how I am going to go about it. Glad to help and I will definetly give you the unbiased inside info once I get into it....

Staffing ratios, per the current union contract, may be stated as 6:1, but are actually at management's discretion (per our current contract).

Therefore, no staffing ratios exist.

For example, the current ICU step-down unit (IMC) has staffing ratios of 4:1 with CNA presence. I've worked IMC with 5 patients and no CNA. I have been told that some med-surg units staff short and have staff at 7:1 ratios.

It's all at management discretion per the SEIU/ St. Rose union contract.
