Psych Nursing in Vegas?

by RiaRN

Does anyone have any suggestions of where to begin looking for RN jobs in the psych specialty? Anyone work in psych? Do you like it? I have med/ surg experience, no psych experience at all. I am wondering how to try out this field. I have always been interested in it and it was my favorite clinical rotation, but was urged to get med surg experience before to "establish my foundation". Thanks in advance, any opinions are appreciated.

I know North Vista hospital has a gero-psyche unit, They have spring mountain treatment center is always in the LVRJ. Also working corrections will get you ALOT of psych experience. CCDC is hiring also. HTH

I agree Rawson Neal would be a good choice but they are Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health which I think is having a hiring freeze. North Vista would hire you in their geropsych with no experience and you could perdiem there to see how you like it. Sunrise Medsurg (specifically 4 East) has a couple of camera rooms and they get alot of psych there. They are always looking for people. Isn't there a psych facility called Red Rock too? Maybe you could contact an agency and tell them you want to try out a few different facilities to see how you like it.

Check out Montevista. I worked there per diem for one year. I had like 8 mos of floor experience before applying there. It's not a bad gig. It has its stressors, but much different from the hospital. The nurses that I encountered were pretty nice. I also worked per diem at Spring Mountain, for one month. Go check out Montevista. Really sell yourself during the interview, to get over that hump of not having any psych experience.
Just thought of another place that I really liked. It's Mojave Mental Health. I loved that job. Some of the coolest people I have ever met. I worked there as a tech of sorts, before becoming a nurse. I know that they utilize nurses though. Good luck.
