Alert Re: Preceptorship at Valley Hospital ER
  1. Your about to get some great experience that ER gets the good the bad and the ugly as far as patients go. Everything from everyday drunks looking for a meal and sleep to Brain bleeds being transfered from neighboring hospitals your about have the ride of your life. Good luck the staff is great dont be lazy and they will welcome you with open arms. Even if you know what your preceptor is teaching you let them teach it. Better you look like a prodigy because you learn quickly than a know it all.
Good luck to you

I am very happy that you received a preceptorship at Valley Hospital ER. I wonder how you were able to find this position. I am a newly licensed RN and can not find any preceptorship programs in the Las Vegas area.'

Thanks for any information you can give to me.

The preceptorship is actually part of my schooling. I graduate in May of this year. Are you saying you haven't been able to find a job here in vegas? that scares me.

I received my RN license in February and all of the hospitals..clinics...etc require 1 year of acute experience. Apparently many part time RN's had to go full time due to the economy (spouses lost jobs) and many have had to return to the workforce (spouses lost jobs). Many have come out of retirement (defunct 401K) and many elective surgeries have been delayed. So they want experienced nurses so they don't have to train.

I hope that you will be able to find a job at Valley. But the hospital recruiters are rejecting my applications. I have gone to nursing homes as well. Since the market has so many RN's with experience, they aren't interested in New Grads.

If I hear of anything that might be brewing, I will let you know. It is a tough market at this time.
