Info Re: Points for CSN
wilneka-

you probably won't ever find out what the minimum points for admission to the ADN program are...they just don't give that info out for some reason. I can tell you from my experience though, I was admitted for this fall 09, that you should apply if you have completed all of your gen. ed. requirements, as well as A&P I & II, Microbiology, and whatever else is a co-req. for the program. Also, if you can score well enough on the TEAS to get a point or two that helps.

I still have no idea what the points were to get into the program, I think I had only 21 or 22 and didn't think I stood a chance to get in the full time, or part time which requires higher points because of less seats available. I didn't have my Microbiology or US & NV Const. complete but I scored well on the TEAS and had healthcare experience worth a whopping 1 point!

Long story short, apply when you have 20 points or more because more people that have more points won't apply because they are unsure they will get in or they get POOR advice from an advisor who think the points need to be near 30, like one advisor told me!

Apply early too, it won't hurt to do so and if you aren't sure you have all the paperwork the lady you turn the papers into will double check. Keep copies of everything you give to her so it will be easier a second or third time applying if necessary.

Good luck!

Thumbs up Re: Points for CSN
I talked to the receptionist at limited entry and she told me that a good safe score was 27. I currently have 24 and figured I'd apply for the part time track just in case. Last semester was a fluke because of the newly instituted TEAS test. So, they were letting in much lower scores. Do what the last poster said and apply the minute you get over 20 points just in case because you never know.

Well the due date for Spring 2010 is Sept. 1 and I believe the fall semester app date is march 1. Which means you should apply Before both of those dates.

I say apply with the pre requisites done, Period. How many points is that? IDK. But I applied with 17 points in the middle of Spring 09 while enrolled in Micro 251 and A&P 224. Today was the first day of RN school....
I think that enough people dropped over summer that they disbanned an entire clinical class. They added several students that were on waiting lists, they were on those lists because they applied.
All you have to do is PASS the TEAS test and apply. You do not have to cram for it or know anything scientific. I took mine in October 08- while still in A&P 223. It is just a basic knowledge test. Math, reading, grammar/spelling and general knowledge.
Was it a Fluke? I heard today that there are even less people for the Spring 2010 RN program!!! Are we sure it was a fluke? Or are people so anxious after all those serious science tests that they no longer know how to pass a GED test? Or maybe ---the lack of jobs is scaring enough people away from a job that entails caring for another human being in some of the most personal ways.... lol!

Yeah the receptionist called it a "fluke" She said a bunch of people applied for fall but they were applying with their NLN and not their TEAS thus making a good portion of the applicants not eligible. The girl said that it was common for a person with a lower score to have gotten accepted last time and not to count on getting the same outcome this time. She also mentioned that there seemed to be alot of applicants for Spring as well.

What girl? The same girl that told me I could not get in within one year of starting my pre-requisites? That same girl that said NOBODY got in with less than 30 points? The very same girl that advises everyone NOT to apply until they are done with EVERYTHING? Well, I did not listen,-- and for that I will be done much sooner than THAT girl anticipated. Sometimes you just have to believe in yourself and your abilities to get things done-- with the grace of God.
I have a great teacher for clinical. I was so nervous about school this week but it turns out that it is not so bad!

Your right.. ultimately do whatever it takes to get in... I'm just repeating what I was told. I applied still even though I'm minus my Micro (which I am taking this semester) Crossing my fingers!

Apply as soon as you have all your general ed's complete. I did not listen to that one adviser. I got in with only 12 points. I was about to finish A&P 2 and Micro but the deadline was prior to the end of the semester so the points could not be counted for those classes. A lot of people last semester were dissatisfied with that adviser's advice. I had my meeting with her and I tell you it was great we sat down and she said "So, how was A&P and Micro?" I said "I passed its on your screen there." She said "yes you did good job, now we can take the TEAS so you can apply for Spring next year." I said "No" she looked confused. It was rather funny "What do you mean, No?" I said I already took the TEAS and Passed and applied to Nursing school for Fall and got in so I think this meeting is over now thank you for all your wonderful advice on waiting to apply" Then I left.

Moral of the story is apply as soon as you can. There is no limit on how many times you can apply and the worst thing they can say is no. But the best thing they can say is YES like they told me Mr. 12 points.

Hope this helps all my future nursing student colleagues.
