nursing schools in southern nevada

hi everyone!

I just moved here from Pennsylvania with my husband and am looking into the nursing programs available in the Las Vegas area. I' m 31 and already have a BA and MS in psychology. I looked into the CCSN program and they said they have a waiting list. UNLV was just uncooperative. Apparently they have a policy that you must officially apply to the university and be accepted before you can talk to an advisor. Well the deadline to apply had passed and I needed to talk to someone in the nursing department about prereq's but they said they could not help me because I had not been admitted to the university yet! They told me to look at their website and try to figure out what prereq's I needed myself Finally I went to Nevada State College and they were very helpful. I might even make it into the Fall 05 accelerated BSN class if I get everything done in time.

My first question is, "Because NSC's program is so new, will employers in LV look at it as inferior?" and will this make it harder to get a job after? And what are the better hospitals to work at in the LV area? Salaries? Benefits?

Finally, I'd love to chat with a few people from here as I have no friends or family out west.

I did the CCSN LPN program and finished in 1992. My husband was stationed at Nellis at the time and I worked for (at the time) Humana Sunrise Hospital on Parkway. The CNO there is darn it, I can't remember her first name, but her last name is Hicks. She was the nursing supervisor when I worked there and she was wonderful.

Thanks for the reply. I just went to a career fair out here and they had fremont hospital and the valley system as well as healthsouth rehab there. The reps all seemed very helpful and they all had some type of tuition forgiveness programs. Now all I have to do is make it through A&P & Microb!

Default Future NSC Accelerated BSN student

I am finishing up my BS in Health Ed this spring and will be applying to NSC accelerated too! I am already accepted there (I was going to do the Undergrad BSN last fall, but they lost my file but it was already too late, so I decided to finish my Health Ed degree and apply to this program). I don't qualify for UNLV b/c I couldn't get the required "B" in Micro (had a B-). I could have pleaded my case to my prof, but decided to apply to NSC instead.

I would love to chat too! Email me @ my msn account:

After 18m here I still really don't have someone to call "friend" (my DH is stationed @ Nellis).
