Nurse hangouts?

Hi all,

I've been in Las Vegas for about a year and a half, and am wondering if there are any organizations/informal groups for nurses to meet up and hang out. Also, any good conventions or meetings held here? (I'm running low on free post-it pads and pens ).

LOL. I've been here since July 03 and I'm surprised when someone even posts in here, never mind a get together. What kind of nursing are you in? BTW you gotta follow the pharm reps around for the free goodies, not the nurses, will just rob yours. LOL

Piggy Bank Hi Penguinurse,
You might be interested in the Nat'l Student Nurses Association ( NSNA). In April there will be a large convention held at Salt Lake City, Utah .( NSNA.org)

I have 2 admit Allnurses.com is my favorite place to hang out The posts are interesting as well as entertaining!

I also recommend "The Comedy Stop" at the Tropicana Hotel the comedians are the best! Just a note of caution ( use the restroom Before the show starts) unless you want to be part of the act

On a hot summer day Wet N' Wild is a fun place to bring friends and family. In the winter I enjoy going 2 Lee Canyon for snow skiing and snow boarding.

Having and using a local gym membership is a great way 2 get in shape, relieve stress, and meet some of the local Las Vegan's. :hatparty:

I was just wondering - I'm finishing up my first year of a 2yr RN program - and my plan has been to pack up and move to LV to practice. Now to the wondering - is it difficult for a new nurse to find day hours, and also, with an ADN vs. BSN, will I find hospitals closing their doors on me?

And finally, is it *really* that bad finding a home for a reasonable price?

The next time you are in Vegas I would recommend looking around at the different hospitals ect.. As far as day hours go I would check out the day surgery facilites , they have great hours.

The hospitals will not close the door on you for being a ADN , I am in my first semester of the ADN program and half the class has already been recruited by Valley Hospital ( Adopt a Student program).

The housing market , depends on what state you currently live in.If you currently live in California the market may seem reasonable.
Also ,depends on what time of year you buy. I bought my in home in Dec. just before Christmas.
There are always homes a available.Builders have been building them as fast as they can for the last 10 years.

Please keep in touch and let us know what you decide to do . Also please feel free contact me if there are any more questions that I can help you with.

Best Wishes,
Twinkie :hatparty:

Twinkie - thanks so much for the information. There isn't a doubt in my mind that I'm moving there next year. Good advice about buying at the right time, etc. Believe it or not, I think my company may be sending me to LV May 22-26 for a software conference. Do you have any recommendations as to how I could possibly visit a few of the hospitals while I'm there. With patient confidentiality, I doubt I'll be let on the floors. I'd rather not talk to the HR folks as I'm sure I'll get the song and dance PR stuff. I'd rather talk to nurses or a nurse recruiter who will give me the real scoop.

Thanks again. Hope to hear from you. You can reach me via email at NevadaJay@comcast.net if you'd like. I'm in Minnesnowta, btw.
