NSC Accelerated Nursing Program Fall'08

I am starting the fall '08 accelerated nursing program at Nevada State. I thought this thread would be a really good tool for those of you, including myself, who want to talk about getting ready and studying before hand...if anyone has suggestions as to what might be a good way to prepare to any extent, I would appreciate the advice... I would even be willing to get together and review stuff as a group..

Thanks
Bobby

I am in the program currently and the last year has been a whirlwind! I love this program and think I am as prepared as any other new grad to begin my career. First semester was brutal, but just try to remember to breathe and go with the flow. Don't waste good studying energy getting freaked out! Just stick it out and you will do fine! Word to the wise: You can never start studying for NCLEX too soon!

I'd enjoy your summertime if you have free time because once nursing school starts, you won't have much of it to spare!

Congratulations on getting in! I'm a recent graduate up in the northern part of the state and it's been awesome! Best of luck to you!!!

I graduated from UNR. I think the hardest part was simply time management. There was a test nearly every week, sometimes multiple tests per week, in various classes and there's a lot of material to cover. In nursing school, it isn't about memorization of facts, it's all about critical thinking. You really need to understand the material and how to apply it to succeed. You will probably be presented with test questions where multiple answers may be appropriate, but you need to select the choice that is most correct based upon many factors.

Some things like "safety first", Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, ABCs (Airway, Breathing, Circulation), really help you prioritize when you're trying to select answers on exams.

Funny as it may sound, the people who seemed to struggle the most were those that took nursing school very seriously and seemed to be studying all the time during their off time. Leave some time for yourself and don't forget to enjoy life!

i know it's been a while since this original thread... i was just wondering how is the program now? i've been trying to locate any NSC nursing students but i've been out of luck... i've applied for this coming fall and want some info about the admission process this year. i noticed that there are only 32 slots for the accelerated program when it should have been 56 (this coming fall)... please advise... i've been getting nervous with my application... i've applied with a 3.24 cum gpa, and a 3.54 pre-req gpa... 86.6 teas... do u think that's enough since the school cut down 24 slots? thanks...
