new to nevada - shifts/recommendations?

ok, i haven't heard from anyone and i work here now in henderson so i thought i would answer myself so it might help someone else. St. Rose is a very nice hosp. it is practically brand new and very clean. they are building another branch of the hosp. on the west side of town. it is supposed to be done by 2006 so there is alot of growth to be going on at st. rose. i started at the imc and will be tx'ing to the icu soon. i work nights and the shift differential is 2 $ more an hr. they occassionally have incentives for working over when staffing is short. there are alot of travelers but everyone i have met is super nice. i love it here. they strive to be a friendly and welcoming hosp. they did just pass a union in the hosp. b/c i think like every hosp. in the area is unionized. from what i have heard from the travelers they say this hosp. it great and many don't want to leave. they say umc valley and sunrise stink. i am very glad and fortunate that i chose st rose sienna campus. they did relocate me from ohio and they took care of everything. it was great. i did get a 1/2 months salary as a bonus which helped with my gas etc. driving my car cross country. i do have to stay there for 2 years and i don't think that is a problem. oh, they are on 12 hr. shifts. write me if you have any questions, i would be happy to help.

hi there. i am an rn in ohio and i am moving to henderson nv. i have also practiced in california as an rn. what hospitals do you recommend? i have heard good and bad so far. does anyone have a recommendation? (My experience is neuro trauma) In akron ohio we always have staffing issues and it is very hard. Also which hospitals have 12 hr shifts? how are the icu's? is the staffing bad there too? Does one have to commit to the 2 year payback sign on bonuses. what if you only stay 1 year? What are the shift differentials? I was looking into st. rose system but i think i saw they were on 8 hr shifts? how is the university hosp vs. sunrise? has anyone recieved moving relocation benefits and if so how does that all work? thank you very much for the info

Hi srenn, thank you so much for the information. I realize that you posted this quite a while ago, but I'm now in the same boat as you were. I'm graduating in May from Univ. of Akron with the hopes of moving to Las Vegas. It looks like it is going to be contingent on getting a relocation package, as I can't afford to move myself out there. I've really been looking into St. Rose hospitals, and I hope to get into the ICU. Can you talk a little bit more about the Henderson area, since you've been out there for a few years now? That's probably where I will move to. Thanks for any info, it's always helpful!

Thanks for the info. I too am an RN in Ohio that hopes to relocate to Lasvegas(if my house ever sells!). I see a lot of openings At St rose Dom. but I see they want a min Associate degree. I am a diploma grad but have been a nurse 30 yrs with lots of Peds, Level II nursery and maternity. Additionally I am a lactation consultant. I have always wanted to get my degree but will wait till I relocate at this point. How strict are they about their requirement and do they offer sign on bonuses? Thanks for any info.
