A little Help, Please!!!

Hello,

My wife is in talks with Summerlin Hospital and St. Rose Hospital. We will be coming out for 2nd interviews and tours in about 2 weeks. The position is for Critical Care. We would like to get any info about either place. How are the Pt. ratios, what type of charting they do, anything at all will help. The first interviews was mainly finding out all my wifes info and experiance and then just gave us a minimum starting amount/and relocation amounts. they are flying both of us down so she can do 2nd interviews and we can look around.

Any info you can give us would greatly be appreciated, including places to look for housing.

Thanks

I don't work at Summerlin Hospital, but I am attempting to gain employment with them. They are a wonderful hospital, the most expensive hospital as well. It is a great town and a tons of entertainment. Let me know if you want some specific information and I will see what i can do.

Hey,
I don't work in the hospitals, I am a home health nurse but every nurse I know said St Rose is much better to work for. They have 2 hospitals in Henderson. Summerlin is not bad either but they seem to prefer St Rose. check out www.movetolasvegas.com for more on places to live. Hope this helps.

Hello, I hope I am not replying too late for you folks. Even though it says NJ on my profile I have lived in Las Vegas for 3 years. As far as nursing jobs, the sky is the limit. There are jobs everywhere for everyone and the pay is only getting better. There are three large health systems in LV to work for, HCA, The Valley System (Summerlin belongs to that) and St.Rose. St. Rose always has had a good reputation for its work environment and the people. Summerlin Hospital is a busy busy and did I say busy hospital all the time. Its in a beautiful location of the city but if you don't live near there it can be quite a drive for you. St. Rose is opening up a new hospital in the southwest so you might want to check out their website strosecares.com, and see what else is out there. Be careful that some hospitals are unionized if that is not your bag.
Nurses in this city move around alot to get the best deal, so there are always jobs and sign on bonuses and raises. The bottom line to working in these big hospitals is that its hard hard work to get good money. Be careful when choosing because some of these places are so desperate to hire that they will tell you stories. Good Luck.

I too would love to relocate to Vegas, I'm a new grad currently in Maryland. I was just wondering what the potential is for new grads in Vegas.
I notice the demand seems to be for experienced nurses. Around here the most common requirement seems to be 1-2 years experience. I am so frustrated, but I have always wanted to move to Vegas, but i don't want to face the same frustrations out there. I just applied today to UMC, and am looking at St. Rose now.
Any tips for a new grad? Any help is soooo greatly appreciated!

I believe St. Rose is unionized, which I consider good. Unionized nurses make on average about 33% more in wages, better staffing, & more benfits.

I hear from nurses who have worked in Vegas, that St. Rose is a good hospital for patients and nurses.
