Las Vegas job outlook?

Well, I'll be moving to Vegas in a month and am wondering how is the job outlook for new grads? I've read the other threads but have not seen anything recent. Is is getting better? I plan on applying for everything from hospitals to clinics. If anyone has any suggestions it would be GREATLY appreciated

If I were you I would apply immediately...The hospitals in Las Vegas are starting to interview and hire new grads. Usually they do their new grad orientations in July. New grad jobs are kinda tough to get because there are quite a few nursing schools that all have new grads applying. If you are from out of state, it may be harder for you due to the fact that the managers are not familiar with your school. Good luck!

Unfortunately I have to wait until September after I go before the BON before I can apply. I'm going to spend July and August doing life with my son after spending the last 3 years in school. I'm hoping that in September I can just ask to meet the nurse managers. I really want to be an OR nurse. I even did 136 hours of preceptorship in the OR and I loved it!!!! Hopefully things will look up again by that time.

Still sucks for New grad. Apply before you move out and follow up with HR. 2 hospitals have already sent letters out saying they are in hiring freeze!

It really stinks here right now. I know alot of my RN experienced frineds are having a hard time too. Census has been low and alot are getting sent home with all the Medicare cuts and such. I'm in Home care and it has been really slow. Nursing certainly isn't immune to this economy, that is for sure. Good luck

This is terrible. I have tried to find out when they post for the new grad positions, because I have found that if the position does not specifically state that it is for a new grad then I need not apply. I have received declination letter after declination letter, and I still do not understand. I am a qualified candidate, and I know that I am not by myself. What gives?

I hear you. I'm getting tired of the same thing. Some places are good about stating "no new grads" in the job description, but all the other places don't say that at all. I then get to look forward to logging online and seeing my application status change to 'not selected'. This is so depressing.
