I just went in to the SoCal Kaplan to inquire about their LVN program, has anyone been through it? It seems intense but well worth it to be done in a year, the only thing holding me back is the cost. I was quoted over $31K to attend, is this similar to those to have done their program??

Here is some more info on Kaplan

Yes it is accredited. So if you move out of state you are still good- assuming you pass the NCLEX. However, it is not a bridge program so if you plan on going to RN with your LPN - Kaplan isnt a good choice- they hopefully will open the bridge next year if they have high enough pass rates- but I know that some schools take a few years to get to that point.

The program cost $25k

The enterance exams are free- you first take a critical thinking test. When I took mine we had 25 people taking it and only 2 of us passed.

Then you take the HESI - which I thought was extremely easy. But I have already taken college English and LPN Math class. It covers reading comprension, vocabulary, and math skills like fractions - military time conversions - percentages - etc. The day I tested 20 people took it - 3 people passed the first time. They give you 2 chances and you can buy the study book for $25. I dont know how they did the 2nd round. A 70% is considered passing.

They accept students on a 9 pt scale
4pts for the Hesi results
1 pt for health care experience such as a CNA credential or MA credential or health care work experience. They do not consider volunteer work. : (

They also give you 1 pt for each college class you have taken in these catagories:
English 101 and higher
Math Algebra (they do not take Math 100B from CSN)
Biology 189 and higher
Psycology 101 and higher
Each will earn 1 pt

I have been trying to find reviews on this school - but so far I am not finding much- since the LPN program is only 1 year old now.

I just took the Wonderlic test at the Stockton Campus and so far so good. I passed and will be taking the HESI on Tuesday. I have taken the HESI once before at Western Antioch about two years ago and did well so I am going to brush up but not stress. I chose this route because I could not afford to wait for JC to have enough teachers so that I could get in a class. I am a mom/wife with 3 kids and a hubby that is a full time student as well (not graduating until June) so I need to get in and get out and get on with my life. I have spoken with Univ. of Phoenix, Modesto and they have an LVN to BSN program that seems legit and thorough if you have the cash. I know that Merritt College in Oakland has as LVN to RN program. I am not sure which one I will take, probably the cheapest since I will have to repay the loan from the LVN program when I graduate. I will keep you all posted.

If anyone has info on their experience with LVN to RN or LVN to BSN programs, please let me know. Thanks and God Bless!

I was wondering about the Kaplan College accreditation. If I get the lPN at Kaplan and wanted to become an RN the community college out in vegas won't take their credits for the bridge program to become and RN.

Is there any colleges that will take kaplan credits. Trying to did in the LPN program at a community college is almost impossible so many people are going for nursing and it's so much cheaper!!

I just need to get in and out to I'm a single parent with 3 kid's!! Don't want to waste my time

I just met with the admissions rep yesterday. She gave me the schedule. Total the program takes about 49 weeks she said. I'll be applying for the Feb 2010 class.

They make you take two entrance tests. The first is a practice test of 30 questions you have to answer in eight minutes. Out of 30 I got 27 right. The second test is 50 questions in 12 minutes. She told me I got 30 right. Next I have to take the HESI. She said she wants me to get between an 80-90% to be guaranteed entrance to the program. I bought the book, it's basic vocabulary and math. I'm not too worried. If y'all want I can post the class schedules and what they make you take.

Just to throw this out there....

There is a huge misconception about CSN. A LOT of people seem to think that they hold a wait list, so if they go there, they will be waiting X amount of time to start the program. This is NOT true! Every semester, the top applicants get in. If you do not get in, you have to reapply.

Keeping this in mind, why not attempt CSN? It is sooo much cheaper! I just hate to see anyone fork out 25K when they can get the same education for so much less.
