Psudomonas Meningitis

Can someone please explain to me why this is so deadly?

I was working the in Neuro ICU on Sunday for the first time (I'm an extern in the float pool) and took care of a pt with this.

ICP was >40
CSF was littered w/WBC's (couldn't see though it at all and they clumped really quickly)

Pt contracted infection from a single car accident. Was ejected with multiple facial fractures. They think the psudomonas got in through the fractures.
