From ER to ICU

So I am a new grad that has been a tech in the ER and then LPN in ER for the past 2.5 years. I always thought that I would never leave. But, I have just accepted a position in the stroke ICU at a university hospital. So i guess I have a few questions..

Has anyone else that has made that transition made it work? I know a lot work ICU and ER. Or decide one is for them over the other.

Does anyone else work in a Stroke ICU? This one is new to a new hospital so it should be interesting to be a new grad there.

What stuff do you recommend me do to prepare?

Do you ever get over not liking tracheotomy care? I just realized yesterday I was going to be doing that. I swore in school I wouldn't ever have to do that bc I'd be in ER. I'm so gonna eat those words now.

Just hit me with any advise you have.

I also swore I would never do one of these "Hi I'm a new grad I need help posts" but I'm doing that too.

I thought I wanted to work in ER when I graduated. I interviewed for an ER position and an ICU position. I chose ICU. After I started my career as an ICU nurse, I was REALLY glad I chose ICU. I really like critical care period. Although there is something to be said for the challenge of ER and not knowing what will come through the door next--- The truth is it is often times earaches, fevers, and sprained ankles. It gets old. I find ICU challenging and rewarding all the time. Lots to monitor, lots to watch, and lots of thinking.

Naturally as an ICU nurse, you can go anywhere. My hospital floats me to Telemetry and ER.
