brain injury impulsivness

by tutumom

Was wondering if anybody out there had great ideas they are going with their 'impulsive' head injury or stroke patients for keeping the patient safe. Currently we tend to use a lot of 1:1 cna sitters, but would love to hear from people their ideas that work.
Thanks for any input

We try to keep the patient close to the nurse's station, use bed alarms and family to sit with the patient. We are unable to have sitters in the critical care area so that is not an option for us. Sometimes I have seen nurses place signs around the room reminding the patient not to get up, to use the call light and wait for help. Just a few ideas, sometimes there is nothing you can do but use a restraint vest for the patient's safety.

Thanks that is insightful and pretty much what we do. We are lucky that we can use 1:1 cna sitters in the icu but means less cna's on the floor when we do that.
