Nebraska Methodist College Accelerated Program

U.S.A. Nebraska

I am curious if anyone knows anything about the accelerated program at NMC. It is one of the only ones around that I can find who will accept you with an associates degree. How competitive is it to get into? How tough is the program? Instructors? I am looking for any information. Thanks!

. . . I have heard nothing but positive comments about the staff and the program itself. But as someone that has never been to Nebraska, I was wondering if you or anyone else could shed some light on how you like living in that area?

If you are looking for campus life, then you won't find much of it out here. Most people in NMC here come from Omaha, NE. In our cohort there were only 4 people who came from out-of-state. Three of the girls who came from out-of-state already have family in Omaha. The other girl came from California, who I haven't really talked to while being in the program.

There is no campus life in the college. Most people here come from Omaha and have developed personal relationships while living here their whole lives. If you are looking for campus life here that allows you to interact with teachers and students while going to nursing school, I would recommend Creighton here or another program. The NMC here does not make it their priority to have a campus life.

Most teachers here tend to favor students who are married, initially Certified Nursing Assistants, new mothers and have done their other programs in the college such as Sonography or Medical Assisting. You'll most likely receive better information on testing material from teachers outside of what is given on classes and study guides in comparison to students who don't tend to fit the bill of who teachers favor.

I would agree that NMC does not have a lot of campus life stuff but that does not mean you cannot make friends on campus. i think if you live on campus or spend time there studying, you can make friends that way. The truth is that you would not have a lot of time for a sorority or many other "campus life" activities. That does not, however, mean you have to be isolated. There are some student organizations that you can decide to join. You can choose to reach out and make friends especially among your class mates. Also, Omaha has a lot to offer and I am sure you could find opportunities to make friends through pursuing some of your interests as your school commitment allows. In general, I think Omahans tend to be friendly which will help. Omaha is a nice city with a lot of choices to fill your free time. I hope you enjoy your time here and I think NMC is a great choice for an accelerated program.

I'm glad that was brought up as a point about the campus's culture.

Looking at the data from websites, such as princetonreview.com and usnews.com there are no sororities or student organizations to be involved with while attending NMC.

Most students rarely form friendships in the campus because most of them have relationships built while living here in Omaha. Students who come from out-of-state spend more time in Omaha building up relationships before attending NMC by pursuing a certification or degree within the school. As mentioned the four girls who came from out-of-state already know people in Omaha here. One girl from Minnesota has relatives here in Omaha who she stays with while attending school. One girl from Florida spends more time with her pop while attending NMC here. Another girl from California initially grew up in here Omaha came back for school here in NMC. She has relatives who she visits out here.

Campus activites do include sororities, student activites and student organizations. Unfortunately there aren't many student organizations to become active with while attending NMC. If you are looking to become involved with student associations involving student government, acute care student associations, student male associations or urban outreach associations, then this campus will not have them. Even if NMC chose to put in the time to create more student organizations and campus activities, most students would not have the time to become involved with them because most of their lives either revolve around their time attending classes, or keeping up with relationships in Omaha. Students who have to go to student activites or student organizations for service learning hours are not happy to be around either the faculty or other students during those events.

Most people who come from out-of-state living in the dorms already have relatives in Omaha here. Students who live in the dorms have either pulled out private loans, or have the money to pay for the apartments. They also have family here in Omaha. It is also very hard for out-of-state students to divide up their time between current relationships with people, classes and clinical. Most people who live here on the campus rarely go out of their way to offer rides to one another.

The program is not hard to get in at all. When it comes to nursing school it is good to think about what you want from the experience. If you are looking for an active city life like Chicago, IL or New York, New York then you may not find Omaha, NE a great place to be while attending nursing school. If you are looking for student organizations that allow you to apply what you learn in nursing school, then you may not find those opportunities here in NMC.

Omahans are not the only nice people from Nebraska. People here from the Midwest are courteous. If you do enjoy the city of Omaha coming from out-of-state, then you may enjoy attending schools where there are more people from out-of-state.

i just got accepted into the spring 2012 accelerated bsn program. is there anything anyone can tell me about it?? what did you like about the program and what did you not like?

also, would you suggest living on campus or off?

well everyone on here must be glorifying their true feelings about this program because I wish someone would have told me how it really was before I started because I would have not gone there had I known it was this bad. Be prepared to teach yourself everything you need to know becasue none of the professors know how to teach. Sorry to burst your bubble but if your from this area, I would honestly look elsewhere like the Med Center or Creighton. If you start the ACE program be prepared to put up with the most crap you have ever seen. There are too many instructors teaching each class and no one can seem to get on the same page and keep a story straight. They accept too many students and the class is way too large to be affective. Hope you take this into consideration and take your money elsewhere.
