Has anyone applied to Creighton for their fall accelerated BSN program. I was accepted. It was one of 5 schools that I have applied to . Currently I am in California and want to see the school..Anyone have any comments input? :)

Who ever is considering Creighton for the scholarship purposes....be careful. I have had 2, possibly 3 people from my class that ended up declining the scholarship mid-semester and taking out loans. There are many stipulations that are not revealed. Look into it as much as possible.

it seems that many schools seem to have this problem. Can you comment on what some of the stipulations are?

so I have just turned in my online application to Creighton and I mailed in all of my transcripts. I am just waiting on my professors sending in the letters of rec. So my cum gpa is 2.88 and my pre-req courses gpa is around 3.5 or 3.6. So can anyone give me an any info if they know of anyone that got into creighton with a cum gpa lower than a 3.0. I have been noticing that a lot of the schools that require a 3.0 cum gpa, they tend to be very strict with that requirement, even if a students pre-req or science gpa is a lot higher. I really want to go to creighton, so I hope I get in. Thanks guys!

I personally did not apply for the scholarship because I do not intend to stay in Omaha. However, I have talked to recent accelerated grads that are working there and the majority of complaints are that you really don't get a choice of unit you want to work on (even though they tell you so), but instead get placed where they need RNs the most. Recently, this lead to them placing a large majority of new grad RNs all on one unit. There were other issues about what is considered legitimate payback time as well.

I am not sure what else you exactly want to know. Are you applying for the accelerated or traditional program? And have you looked anywhere else? I was also accepted to Regis, which is a 12-month accelerated BSN school in Denver, and hands down I would have went there had I known what I know now about Creighton nursing program. The name looks good, but there is a lot of hidden b.s. along the way that is extremely frustrating! (That isn't just my opinion....I share that with many, many of my classmates). I would explore your options more, especially if there is a financially cheaper alternative.

I'm also thinking about applying to the Creighton program for august 2010. Can anyone who has done that program tell me their stats (gpa, ect.) I only have a 3.0 from my bachelors degree and am nervous about getting in.

Hey dmskoka

did you decide if you are going to go to Creighton yet? I am still waiting to see if I get in. Do you know how long it took after your application was complete to let you know if you got in? also did they call you out for an interview? cause im from cali too, but I really want to go there, so let me know on your decision, it would be nice to have another person from cali there.

Hi, at this point I have decided to stay in ca but haven't said no yet to Creighton just incase this school doesn't work out for me.. I got an email from Carla saying I was in at the end of January and I had applied I think in November? They said that it took a long time because I had gone to many schools (8).. I am sure there will be quite a few from California though from what I have heard. I really did like the school... Also I hear right now that Omaha is hiring.. so I may end up back there :-).. There wasn't any interview.// The school that I got into here is a good school but I went to an orientation meeting and met some classmates. I honestly felt a little out of place.. Instead of being one of the oldest I was near the middle of the age range.. Nice to see though that older people are changing their lives// They had so many degrees though I sat there thinking how did I get in??? Omaha was very friendly and I am sure that you will really enjoy the school..I heard that there are people from all over the country that attend. I sorta regret my decision for that reason. Everyone is local at the school I am going to.... still I am just praying that the job market turns around here... since I own a home here... If I didn't own a home I may have decided differently.. I wish you the best!!!

I have lived in Nebraska the past 2 years and I am going to start Creighton in August 2009 for their accelerated program. I had a high GPA in college (3.9) but I know a few people that got 2.8-3.0 and got in. I think you still have a good change of getting accepted. The only time they interview you that I know of is for the scholarship.

In regards to how long it takes to hear back, it depends. Some folks it only took a few weeks but for me it took a few months. I would keep calling. Acceptance is on a rolling basis so even if you don't get in as early as you would like, don't fret about it too much. Lots of folks drop out before class starts and they move you up the list. So, for example, if you wanted to start in January 2010 and they told you that you got into the August 2010 program that doesn't mean you can't start in January. It just means they put you on a waiting list for Jan but you are guaranteed Aug. Both of my friends were supposed to start in Aug and got moved up to the Jan class.

I have 2 friends in the program right now (one of which has the scholarship) and I also heard that Creighton has started to back out of a few of their scholarships because they gave out too many and don't have enough jobs to place them in... or something like that. I didn't hear as to whether or not those folks had to take out loans but it sounds like they did from another post.

Please feel free to email me if you have any more questions. :coollook: I'm happy to help if I can! [email protected]

Hi Lizgracexoxo

I have applied to creighton for the Jan 2010 class. I submitted my online application about 3 weeks ago and I never got any letter or even email from them yet saying if my application is complete or not. I was told to talk to carla hodder, she just emailed me saying that they send out bi-weekly emails, but I have yet to receive one. So anyways can you tell me if you got any emails from them, because since they admit on a "on-rolling basis" its kinda confusing to even know when they if they even started evaluating my application. I hope I get in. Could you tell me some of the most popular places where students live off campus. I am from California so I dont know whats considered to be a nice area thats safe and is near campus. Thanks

Hi OCGal -

Let's see... first you should know that Carla Hodder is NO HELP at all. Everytime I call or email her, she pushes me to someone else or doesn't respond. If you call someone, try to talk to Erin (the recruitor) - she's super helpful!

So, this is how it works. They set up a committee to review a stack of applications. Depending on this committee's schedule is how often they meet, sometimes every 2 weeks, sometimes less. I did get letters saying my packet was "incomplete" a few times and I had to call and raise hell because my packet was complete. Turns out, they had started 2 packets for me - one under my maiden name and one under my married name. Very annoying. In anycase, I've found hiccups like this very common with schools so if you run into a few bumps don't get frustrated, just hang in there and keep bothering them. It's there job to sort this stuff out. They work with a lot of incoming students so I'm sure it's pretty easy to loose track of things. Check with all the folks that wrote letters of reccommendations to make sure they sent them. Check with the school to make sure they sent your transcripts. Once you know everything should be there, then just call and email and bug them. That's my advice because it worked for me. Actually, my friend had the same problem and bugging Carla and Erin worked for her too.

BTW - they didn't send me emails. They sent me paper mail letters. Carla did email me about 2 weeks before my acceptance letter to tell me that I got in but that was only after I bugged her about it a few times.

Creighton itself is a VERY nice school and it's beautiful, but it's not in the best location. However, there is very little traffic (especially coming from somewhere like Cali) so I would recommend living in an apartment a little way off campus. I know a couple of people that live right by the campus because it's convenient and they are fine with it but it is a little ghetto. I live in Bellevue because it's close to my husbands work (he's Air Force - I'm originally from Cali too) and it takes me about 15 minutes to get there (10 miles away). Creighton is right off the highway and very easy to get to so you could pretty much live anywhere with highway access. It's hard to narrow it down because students live all over the place. I hear a lot of folks go to Creighton from California though because it's easier to get into so I'm sure you won't be alone. How close do you want to live from the school? The accelerated program does a lot of driving to other hospitals also so the whole program wouldn't be on campus anyway.

There are a lot of nice areas in Omaha/Bellevue/Papillion/West Omaha depending on your budget. I wouldn't go to Council Bluffs, IA though - the traffic is worse out that way and not as nice. You can just go to forrent.com and look up some apartments within a 5/10/20mile radius of Creighton. You should be able to tell if they are nice or not. How close do you want to live? There are so many places it's hard to tell you where to go. Overall, Omaha is a nice place and I think it would be pretty hard to go wrong getting a place out here for a year. If you find a few places that you like I can tell you what kind of area they are in if you want.

Hi Elizabeth

Thanks so much for the advice, I did find a couple of apartments that are really nice. So I will send you a private message thanks

hi there, I applied a few months ago and heard back about a month later. I did check in a few times, but heard back from Carla via email that I was conditionally accepted into the August 2010 (I had to turn in my 2 documents signed). When I initally spoke with Erron back in Jan or February, I knew that the August 2009 was full and there were only 4 seats left in the Jan 2010 class so I wasn't too surprised when I heard that I would have to wait a year, but I will take it. I am currently in Seattle and will go there just for school for the year with plans to leave after so scholarships are not the route I am going to take.

The only thing I had a question about was that they don't send out an official acceptence letter so I am hopeful they received everything, anybody that has been accepted know anything about what to do while we wait? thanks! :yeah:
