When to stop studying...thoughts?

Students NCLEX

Published

I take the NCLEX this Monday the 6th, at 2pm...when should I stop studying/reviewing? I know people say to stop the day before and all but I've got today and tomorrow as full days left. I was thinking of studying on Sunday until around 2pm, giving me 24hrs of free time before I sit for the exam. Granted, I will be hitting the hay around 10pm Sunday so my question is, is that enough time to de-stress, relax and have some fun before I sit for the exam or should I take all of Sunday off? Would like to hear what people think and what others have done/are going to do. TIA :)

By now you should know the material and should only be reviewing, so stopping the day prior, to concentrate on relaxing is not a bad idea.

ON the 4th I would hit over cardio, endo, renal, resp for 4 hours and then give yourself a three hour break..back and hit some flash cards or questions on cd. ON THE 5TH I WOULD JUST DO FOCUS QUESTIONS RELATED TO MED/SURG, PHARM. BUT ON DAY 4 AND 5 I WOULD SPEND ALOT OF TIME TALKING OVER OUT LOUD AND DRILLING DOWN YOURSELF CONCEPTS SUCH AS DISEASE PROCESS AND MEDICATIONS I WOULD DO THAT FOR ATLEAST 6 HOURS OVER A TWO DAY PERIOD. Tie your disease, medication, labs together....safety think about the mental health patient....and elderly abuse(be direct with your answers) WHAT CAN FIX THE PROBLEM. Do some select all that apply. TIE IN THE WHY ARE WE DOING THIS. Remember the role of the rn, lpn, ua...and who can doing teaching the rn. RN also does admission and discharge for the nclex hospital...remember that since it requires teaching. Review chest tubes. Know the different levels of preventions. Traction,TPN,(ISOTONIC, HYPOTONIC, HYPERTONIC SOL) know location of where to find the apical pulse. BE DIRECT AT THE BOARD...EVERY ANSWERS TELLS THEM WHAT TYPE OF NURSE YOU WILL BE. TRYING TO SAVE LIVES HERE. no more studying after 7pm on the 5th. EAT A SNACK BEFORE GOING INTO THE TESTING SITE, SUCH AS YOGURT OR ALMONDS AND HALF BOTTLE OF WATER. Believe in yourself....so I GOT THIS....REMEMBER THERE ARE NO GOOD QUESTIONS EVERYONE IN ALL QUESTIONS...SOMETHING IS GOING ON AND WITH LABS THAT ARE IN THE NORM BUT ON THE LOW OF THE NORM OR THE HIGH OF THE NORM red flag for a new nurse.

Know your weak areas and cover them tonight/tomorrow for a bit. At this point you should be reviewing and honing in your test taking skills. Best of luck to you!

I took the test today. I stopped studying all together 2 days ago. The night before I did 20 questions just to get my mind right and that's it. Be sure to get good sleep the night before and like someone else said, eat a snack before you go in. Relax... you've been studying for this for however long you were in nursing school. If you don't know it by now then you aren't gonna pick it up at the last second.

Thanks for the replies. I'm finishing my review tonight and going to relax tomorrow. The info is in my brain; I know I won't know everything but I have to keep telling myself there is tons I do know. Now just to stay calm, cool and collected and I'll be fine :)

for me ... I stopped studying 2 days before the nclex..my rationale was 'you know more than you think you know'......i have known others who studied till the last minute...some do questions even on the day of the exam.....whatever works...lol as long as it leads to passing...do you...

Specializes in Telemetry.

I took NCLEX at 8 am and did questions til 11 the night before. I even studied notecards in the car before I went in for the test. I don't recommend this but the point is this: do what makes you feel good! Good luck! :)
