What happens if a person fails the NCLEX?

If someone fails the NCLEX, and the BON states that they must wait 46 days to retest, do you use the same ATT? Are you issued another? Anybody have any experience with this.

You have to reapply with Pearson for the test and they will send out a new ATT. You will also need to register again with the BON that you are going to take it again. For my state I just had to complete a new application that I would be retesting. I didn't have to pay the fee again or refingerprint. I dropped the application off and they confirmed I had registered again with Pearson Vue and paid for another test and then I recieved the ATT.

You have to re apply and pay any fees and get a new ATT. Each ATT is valid for one attempt

Every state is different. You have to check with your BON's website.

Oddly enough, I'm not nearly as worried about re-paying fees and how to retake the NCLEX a second time. But what worries me BIG TIME is what do I do about my job if I don't pass? I take my NCLEX this Saturday and I am freaked out that I am going to have to tell my employer that I couldn't pass the NCLEX...if I was working for a small regional hospital I might not feel so bad but I accepted a position at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Do I have to re-apply? I know I can't even start my orientation without a license number!!! I'm afraid to even ask an HR rep because I feel like that admits defeat. Does anyone know about not passing the first time and dealing with a job offer???

That is why everyone should be very prepared when they sit for the exam. If you do not pass the exam, then you will not be able to start your new job, as you will not be considered a graduate nurse either.

This does happen and it is up to the HR Dept as well as the manager as to what they would want someone to do. But you will not be able to start orientation as an RN without having passed the exam.

I would just focus on getting it passed the first time instead of what to do if you do not pass. 85% do pass the first time, so the odds are in your favor.

    Best of luck to you.

I know these posts are outdated... but I am wondering if anyone can give me more thorough steps on how to re-apply for NCLEX-RN for the state of MA. Thank you.
