Parenteral nutrition solution should be changed every 24 hours because the PN solution is a high-concentrate glucose solution and is a medium for bacterial growth. Infection control is also aided by use of aseptic technique with bag and tubing changes. Most agencies recommend that tubing be changed every 24 hours along with the bag, although some agencies recommend changing tubing every 48 to 72 hours
