Using the "Major 5" companies to study...?

Nursing Students NCLEX

I graduate in August but am going to really focus on studying for the NCLEX this final semester on top of all my classes.

I am a nurse apprentice at a local hospital and was talking with a new grad nurse that passed her NCLEX 6 months ago on her first try. She was telling me that her school (her school is notorious for having very high pass rates -- nearly 100%) recommended to all their students to buy the 5 "major" NCLEX books to study from.

Anyone know what they are? I know Saunders, Lipincott, Mosby, and Kaplan. What is the fifth one? And has anyone heard of this strategy?

those are the only ones i have heard of. i am new to this forum, but mostly everyone talks about saunders.

NCLEX-PN = Exam Cram PN

NCLEX-RN = Saunders

That's what I heard was the best! I heard it isn't wise to use so many books. Stick with one that suits you best.

Saunders for content

Kaplan for questions Qbank

I have been using Saunders since the beginning of nursing school and I find the Saunder's questions pretty darn easy, thus I am definitely going to use other question banks to study.

our program faculty have advised us to use at least 3 different books to expose ourselves to different ways of asking questions and to help with preparation for nclex...

i've used saunders (i find them to be lower level), lippencott (more challenging), davis (more challenging) and hogan (more challenging but annoying - i find errors and the cd is not set up well - it's really only useful for the practice exam of 265 questions - i would not buy this book again)...we also do hesi case studies and meds pub as part of our program

i can only think of 4 major ones, too - saunders, kaplan, lippencott and davis but adding in mosby would be the 5th hehe

good luck to you :)

Davis was my favorite book, but I never hear anyone else talk about it. I also used ATI, Mosby and Saunders. I would bet though I used Davis 80-85% of the time and the others got a small fraction of my use.
