Took The Nclex Today After Letting My License Lapse

Well I took the NCLEX RN today. It was a very different exam. I had a unique and special situation. I let my license lapse years ago when I went back to school for a different degree/career. I practiced for about 12 yrs and left nursing in 1989. I studied for 2 months using the Saunder's book and CD questions and Kaplan Q trainers and Linda LaCharity book. All were extremely helpful in my study plan.

I debated upon upon posting until I got my results back but decided against it. I got a lot of Priorization (who would you see first), infection control, only 3 SATA's, and no math questions. Had some meds but I knew them, at least what they were and for what disease process. ONe of the SATA was so simple. Wish I could say all the questions were. I found myself down to 2 possible answers a lot of the times. I used the dry erase board and would cross off the wrong answers to narrow it down. It helped keep things straight in my head. Wish everything else in my head was so straight then.

As I was going through the exwith my driver's license but the proctor came over and made me remove it. Anyway I got closer to 75 and thought I hope it shuts off at 75. I don't want to do 265 questions but 75 came and went. And I resigned myself to doing all 265 questions. But then at 88 the screen turned gray. I breathed a sigh of relief. This was a difficult exam and I really don't know how I did.

I know I did forget one lab value or at least I was not quite sure. I kept talking to myself, making myself take a deep breath and saying it's ok even if you have to do 265, you can do it. Sometimes I had to read the questions several times and then reread each answer several times to sort things out in my brain.

I do have to say the questions on the NCLEX were exactly the same as Kaplan's --- structure wise.

All I know is that I am SOOOOOOOO glad it is over. That was just terrible. The stress in my shoulders is starting to let up.
