Thank you for sharing this! Today was a rough day. I'm in my first semester of ADN school and plan on one day becoming an APN. Your perseverance, encouragement and faith really made my day! When I got home this afternoon I was feeling like, "Can I really do this?" Then I said one of my favorite Scriptures, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," and came in to find study tips on SATA questions because that seems to be where I am struggling on Fundamentals testing. I haven't failed a test yet, but I went from a 94 down to an 80 avg on tests once we started having more SATA questions. Your post is exactly what I needed today! Congrat's on passing your NCLEX!!!!

@Heidi 1978, thank you. I wasn't any good on SATA questions as well but I made sure I knew the content. The content is your foundation. To be able to answer the questions you don't only need good test taking strategies but you have to know the core of the content as well. NCLEX's SATA weren't as hard as Kaplan's Question bank SATA. They were more straightforward. I read a tutorial of answering SATA by approaching each choice answer as true or false in relation to what the question is asking. I feel this helped me a great deal during the exam. Good luck! Remember have faith and know that you can do this.

Michelle that is awesome! I'm a student and I won't be taking my NCLEX until early next year, but reading this seriously makes me excited and motivated! I think that's a great idea practicing lab values every night...I definitely need to do that. I've heard that doing the Hurst Review and the Kaplan Review are both beneficial...have you heard anything about that?

Thank you. I heard a lot about Hurst Review but everyone who has taken Kaplan in my school has passed so I decided to invest in Kaplan. Each reviewer has its own benefits. I used Kaplan and Saunders simultaneously, but I would have to say that Kaplan's question trainers and question bank really helped me for NCLEX. It's a good idea to start memorizing lab values right now. There is no other way around it. Good luck with your studies and NCLEX. You can do it.

@Jhendora, thank you. I recommend using the Saunders Comprehensive disc to practice on SATA's. They have a lot of alternative test question formats and SATA is one of them. Congratulations!
As I can assume, I should focus on priorities without cramming diseases and pharmacology, right?

Reading your story actually gives me some relief! I was starting to freak out because so far I've read people using multiple companies as resources for both questions and content review. I too am using Kaplan..and am in the process of redoing my question trainers (just making sure that I learned from those rationales). So far the 5-7 classmates of 45 who have taken the exam have all passed (we graduated August 6th 2013), so...i feel the pressure!!! I've been studying for 2 weeks now (exam is in 4 wks) and I've done 1323 Qs so far (not including the random 500 I did in my last semester of school). I review all of the rationales to all of my questions whether or not i got them right or wrong..I look up terms and concepts that I do not understand, right away; I even listen to review videos and media files while I shower, use the bathroom, wash dishes, etc. I hardly go out except when I have work, and I have been pretty devoted to my set study schedule. I've managed to lose the anxiety I had from feeling rushed while taking these trainers, in addition to being able to accurately remember Kaplan's test-taking strategies (decision tree, therapeutic communication dos and donts, and the "who do we see first?"). I have to admit that I think I've narrowed down what I have left to work on and I think it comes down to pure content...I am not fully comfortable with the foundation I have right now, but I have learned a lot in these past two weeks. I am a combination learner, I need audio, visual, and I read the rest...quite honestly I am remembering more from these Kaplan videos than any other source...am I foolish for just relying on these videos? I know they take about 4-6 hrs each topic..but are they good enough? Maybe I am over-thinking, maybe I already am on the right track, and maybe I am doubting myself and my capabilities...I just need reassurance at this point to keep my confidence and to keep on going.
