Tip for Addison's vs Cushing's

    Here is a little trick I came up with for remembering all the hyper/hypo symptoms related to Addison's and Cushing's:

    Put the symptoms in alphabetical order minus the hyper/hypo:
    -calcemia
    -glycemia
    -kalemia
    -natremia

    Start with Addison's: alphabetically, hyper comes before hypo. the order is hyper, hypo, hyper, hypo (hypercalcemia, hypoglycemia, hyperkalemia, hyponatremia)

    Cushing's is the opposite: hypo, hyper, hypo, hyper (hypocalcemia, hyperglycemia, hypokalemia, hypernatremia).

    This has helped me on numerous practice questions so I thought I would share.

    Here's how I remember it

    Some(na). People (k) Get( glucose) colds(ca). Now. Addison ( notice there's is 2DD).

    So I would start from DDecrease na, then Increase K, then decrease Glucose, and last increase caFor Cushing is the reverse you start from increase.

    CUSHING(notice the C. ( increment or increase)

    cushings= up up up down up
    addisons= hyponatremia, hypotension, decreased blood vol, hyperkalemia, hypoglycemia

    I like these. I have a million things going through my head, so I'm going to print these out and really look closely at them. I have a certification test coming up and I'm trying to remember what process goes with the labs. It's making my head spin.
