Thanks Suzanne! My perspective.

Updated Aug 06, 2008 at 12:30 AM by MikeInColorado

I passed the NCLEX-RN recently with 135 questions. I would like to thank Suzanne for her patented advice.
Although I must admit that it was hard to follow it exactly because my wife has been working while I'm taking care of our 7 month old.

I was pretty certain that I got the last question correct (I know that has been an issue on this board). It seems logical to me that if your computer shuts off at 75 or 265 there is no way of knowing for sure that you passed or fail. But if the computer shuts off anywhere between 76 and 264 and you know you got the last one correct it seems logical based on this type of testing that you passed; likewise, if you got it incorrect you failed. Anyways, just my opinion based on my experience and the published info on how the software responds to your answers.

Once I got passed 75 I knew one thing that gave me a load of confidence: I knew that the computer did not have a good enough reason to fail me yet and I still had a chance to pass.

My advice, without giving away Suzanne's data, is to take a Disciplined approach to studying all the main areas that will be on the NClex. Practice a ton of questions, and reassess your weak areas every few days. Whatever you do, don't panic! The NCLEX-RN mountain isn't as big as it may appear but you must study and practice to pass.. Best wishes.

Thanks Mike

I am on my 2nd day of Suzanne's 2nd tip. I do think her plan is solid. I do have to say that I have taken the old boards (1977) and passed. But I let my license lapse and now want to return to nursing. Hence taking the NCLEX. I do have a slight advantage of practicing 13+ years and I haven't forgotten everything.
