taking NCLEX tomorrow.....again

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Its been about 90 days and I am taking the NCLEX again tomorrow. I failed the first time with 75 questions. I have been using Saunders and answering test questions so hopefully, as long as I can keep my anxiety down and with some devine intervention, things will go my way this time.

Only thing is, is that Virginia doesn't participate in the quick results. That means 3 weeks of extended torture. Congradulations to all that have passed. And to those that are still trying. You will make it!

Take care............

Bill

Not sure where you are having problems on the exam, but you never followed up with me after you received the materials. Not sure how you used them and if you used only Saunder's? or other books as well.

Did you follow exactly what was in the study plan 100%? The reason that I am asking is to know why it did not work for you.

Just one thing came to mind, I have never heard of a BON sending that type of information by e-mail. Could it be someone playing a bad prank on you? I suggest that you phone them to make sure that the e-mail was actually from them.

Especially since they normally take so long to get the license to you, having them use internet to send something like that is not normal, and in such a short time.

Think about it.

Specializes in Transplant, homecare, hospice.

Yeah. Me either. I paid money to GO to their website to see my results early. No e-mail was ever sent. That's odd.

I hope and pray that is true. I emailed them to find out just how long it would be before I found out as I had heard it would be 3 weeks. They emailed back and told me it would be posted online 24 hours after being issued. If I wanted to know the process status, to send my ssn. I did and that is when they replied saying a license would not be issued. And that I would receive more info in the mail in 2 weeks. I have to admit, that I am surprised they would tell me in an email. What if it wasn't me on the other end?

I purchased and used the Suanders. Study questions almost everynight. Reading rationals. Read the material on disaster/triage and herbal medicine. I honestly thought I done ok. Even knowing I missed a couple, but never wanting to get my hopes up. Telling my wife that I probably didn't make it. I don't know what is going wrong. I done pretty decent on the Saunders Test. I wonder if being a Paramedic is hurting me? I just don't know. The gloomy weather outside sure fits right it with the way I feel. Sitting here in the dark...wondering.

I took one of the kids to school this am and checked the mail when I got back. Saw the bad news and drove to my wife's work to tell her. What can I say beside "I'm sorry". I have failed my wife and kids, not once, but twice. New job and sign on bonus gone again...Merry Christmas. :angryfire :crying2: So many mixed emotions....

This is the reason I did not tell but just a few people that I was testing again. Now I can say that I decided to wait until January. I don't know where to begin. Guess I will wait to see what my results were and take some more test. They way I feel though, if it wasn't for the school loans to be paid back, starting this month no doubt, I would just forget it all.

Thanks guys (that means ladies too) for listening............Bill

Where did you go to nursing school? Was it a regular type of classroom setting?

Mountain State University in Beckley, WV. Non-traditional Nursing program in that it was 2 nights a week with weekend clinicals. 8 people in my class.

i am sorry to hear the news but what helped me with studying was not only saunders but i also went to a website call medspublishing. it is an interactive education website. i had to use it for school. they have a program that you can purchase for about $65.00 and is good for 60 days.

this program allows you to take tests online with immediate answers and

feedback. not only did i learn some things but it also helped prepare me for the kinds of questions that would be on the test. it really helped me with my critical thinking skills. i passed the first time with only 75 questions and truely believed it was because i incoporated the medspub into my studies.

if you decide to try it let me know what you think. i think it is one of the most helpful study/websites out there.

good luck !!!!

Trying to pinpoint what you are having problems with.......how did everyone else do on the exam?

Did you follow everything that I had in the program, as far as reading the rationales on each and every answer, both the incorrect, as well as correct?

4 passed, 3 failed, the other I don't know. I will have to wait and see what the results are to find out what happened. The only thing is that I did not read all rationale for the correct answers. Thought I knew them well enough.

1. It is extremely important to read each and every rationale, both for the correct answers, as well as the incorrect answers. This shows you the reasoning behind why an answer was chosen, and why the others weren't.

NCLEX is its own beast and it is important to know what they are looking for.

2. If only 4 out of 7 passed, that is way below the national average of about 85% passing the first time. Sounds like issues with your program.

That comes out to about a 57% pass rate.

3. At this point, because the passing wasn't better with your program, you may wish to review the Saunder's book before starting on the questions again. There must be something that also was not covered in your program that should have been. Many programs are now incorporating the book into their curriculum, you can find almost anything in there.

Suzanne is right. Review the rationales. NCLEX questions are written at the application level or higher. That means they are not testing your recall and recognition. You have to use more than one cognitive step to answer questions at a higher level. Therefore, you need to know the rationales.
