Taking nclex for 2nd time. Need your help!

I will be taking the NCLEX exam again in the next couple of weeks. I was truly devasted when I received results for my first attempt. After about a week of so of just pure hell and feeling like the biggest idiot, I picked my head up and started studying again....thought those days were long gone, but no, while everyone else in my class has passed, and going to the beach or wherever, i'm still studying like i'm in nursing school.

So far I have being doing tons of questions from test banks, also done the Kaplan 2010 review (the book not the course), and Saunders 2009 RN review. Does anyone have any other suggestions of what to do or what to study??? I can NOT fail this second time. I have too much riding on me to pass and get started with a job that has been promised to me. Please I need your help!!!

I know everyone has been saying this, but make note cards or something for the kinds of infection control (contact, droplet, airborne). I had a few questions on the test dealing with this and it was a piece of cake!

That's a good idea. That's strange that you recommended that, cuz I had at least 5 infection control questions regarding what kind of equipment would you wear in a pts room. I probally got everyone of them wrong, cuz I always think the worst scenario and picked the option where you would wear everything. lol thanks for the suggestion.

My worry with infection control is if you add standard precautions. Is it specific what you are going to be DOING in the room--like it you're working near bodily fluids? For example, Adenovirus is droplet, so I would pick just wearing a mask and private room (or Cohort). But if I was changing their dressing, I would also want to wear gown and gloves. Any help would be appreciated!

To be honest, I can't remember if the questions were specific as to if you were doing a dsg change, etc....i've done so many practice questions since taking it the exam

Another big item I had were priority questions, the practice questions i'm doing now are NOTHING like they were on the NCLEX!!

Yeah, I'm worried about priority too. I've heard that LaCharity's book Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment is helpful for studying those types of questions, but I can't afford it right now. Hopefully they won't ALL have life-threatening emergencies--or if so, one will be airway!

Seriously pay the money to do the NCSBN questions they are identical to the ones on the nclex. The link is http://www.learningext.com/ I definately think that if you do the review online plus all the questions you will be ready. The only other advice I have is when doing the questions review each rationale to the questions wether it is right or wrong. Saftey, infection control, prioritizing was very big I got a lot of those questions. Also know the diffrent procedures, I was asked to rank order inserting a foley, 1 med question and a lot of teaching as in how do you know it was effective and not effective. HTH

Seriously, just do a lot of practice questions. Become familiar with the format. Eventually you should see a pattern and become familiar with the type of answers they are looking for. You are able to pass. Just relax and be confident!
