It doesnt matter what state you take boards in, as it is a national exam and the same everywhere. Its not harder in one state then another.

It does matter however, that you take boards in the state that you would like it work in. Otherwise, you will need to transfer your license to the state you would like to work in (unless its a compact state).

Just choose the state that you would like to work in, and take boards there.

You can always find out more information by going to the BON website for each state.

good luck.

NCLEX = NATIONAL Council Licensure Examination :D

I am currently finishing and LPN program in NY state. I was under the impression that we had to take the NCLEX in the state we do the program in. Is it possible to finish a program in one state and take the exam in another? That would make sense to me since it is a national test. We are looking to move to Florida. Also, does anyone know if I can work as a GPN in another state until I take the exam?

Any info will be helpful.

You are not required to take the exam where you attended school, it has nothing at all to do with your schooling, but where you wish to work. The exam is the final step in the licensing process.

I always recommend that you get the exam done before you move. You will have too many stressors to deal with after you move, plus it is much easier to find a job with the license in hand.

Well I understand that and that was what I had planned to do, but then I have been hearing that we might not be scheduled for the test up here for three months after we send our money and registration in, which would put me at Sept or Oct and then I have been reading things in other posts that it takes awhile to get the license from Florida after that. We were planning on moving this summer so I would either have to stay up here and wait or go there and take the test, which was why I was asking if I could work as a GPN down there until I take the test.
