Hey everyone! I have a question..I was told by friends that the NCLEX-pn is all critical thinking, and that studying/practicing Saunders was a waste of time. Is this BS?

You can't answer critical thinking type questions without knowing content inside and out - it's the foundation you have to have before being able to make correct nursing judgements. You decide which pt to see first based on what you know about the info given on each pt in the scenario. If you didn't understand the patho & s/sx of hyperkalemia (which Saunders covers quite nicely), you wouldn't be able critically think that the patient with low UO is the priority because of r/f cardiac dysrhythmias s/t hyperkalemia.

Studying Saunders or any other content review is not a waste of time. Good luck on your NCLEX! Welcome to allnurses!

I would say that studying for the NCLEX is hard, there are tons of books out there, each one claims to be the best to prepare you blah....blah.... I just took mine last month. I used ATI and some Saunders both book and the CD. Although I liked the ATI better it is only because it had much more critical thinking questions and I think that is exactely what the NCLEX is testing you on. There are always the basics that you need to know as a nurse such as lab values, normal vitals etc, but going beyond that and combinding your basic knowledge and critical thinking skills is the key to the NCLEX. I don't think there was one question that I didnt have to go back in my mind to A&P or nutrition or growth and development and actually really think about the basic structure and function of the body AND mind. If you can do that you can actually figure out the best answer to the question.

waiting for results

I'm checking the mail every day for my results even though it's only been ten days I'm leaving for Air force boot camp on august 8th and I really hope I find out before then. I got cut off at 85, and everybody says, oh you passed...but it makes me more nervous that they say that!!
