Scared for Nclex, Bad Hesi scores

I am an average nursing student. I don't get straight A's or anything but with alot of effort I do well and am mostly a B student with the average A's. For some reason I dont do well on the Hesi's at all. I dont completly bomb but it deff is not a comforting score. Sometimes i see students who dont do as well in the classes doing well on the Hesi and think, 'what am i doing wrong?'. I dont see myself passing the NCLEX the first time out at all. I'm scared it will take me 100 times. I'm a fighter though, I know i will prepare for them the best i can and hope that the fact that i won't be studying for school at the same time will for in my favor as opposed to the Hesi; which i have to study for in addition to my exams for nursing school. Does anyone have any advice? or any good books or cds? i just recently purchased an NCLEX 4000 cd.

Thanks!!!!

I just took my NCLEX last Wednesday and I feel pretty confident that I passed.....i also had an NCLEX 4000 CD...and i used it daily for like a month to prepare myself.....and i thought the NCLEX was so much easier than the tests i had in school.....instead of Hesi, we had ERIs at our school and I didnt do very well on most of them.....so keep your chin up, it i will be over with before you know it

In my opinion HESI was much harder than NCLEX. I was so frustrated by HESI but I passed NCLEX the first time. I did the Hearst review.

I have also heard the NCLEX isn't as bad as the HESI. I havn't taken it yet, July 6th is my day, but I am the last one in my graduating class to take it, so they have all given me great advice. For some reason they said they were less nervous to sit for NCLEX than the HESI, and 22 out of 25 of my colleagues passed. Hopefully soon it will be 23. Good luck to you.

I used Mosby's Illustrated Study Guide for the NCLEX-RN. There's absolutely no way to remember every detail so I focused on the pathophysiology of the different diagnoses. If you understand the pathophysiology, then you'll be able to rationalize what symptoms the patient might have and what medications and procedures might be indicated. I did about 100 NCLEX 4000 questions each night. My scores got progressively better each day. Make sure you read the rationales! A week before the exam, I took a vacation. I felt the stress of studying quickly melt away. Needless to say, I was very relaxed going into the exam. I passed with 75 questions. My best advice...review what you learned in nursing school but don't over study. Do lots of practice questions. Take a couple of days before the exam to relax and prepare yourself mentally. Read the questions carefully and think about each option. Picture the patient in the scenario. Most importantly, have a positive attitude! You survived nursing school and you WILL survive the NCLEX! Best of luck!

I did very well on HESI's and still failed by first time so don't let HESI predict how you'll do.. According to my HESI scores I had a 98% chance of passing the first time and I see how that was wrong.

The best way to deal with your test anxiety is to prepare properly, giving yourself enough time to learn the material. Good luck.
