hello everybody.. newbie here!

im going to take my nclex for the 3rd time this aug. and im very very nervous..

took kaplan before but guess it didn't work out for me coz i failed.. twice

so now im planning to read saunders.. don't have money (broke) to get another course online ($300-500) so saunders is my last resort.

can i pass my exam by just reading and ans. through the cd that comes with the book alone?

really hoping!!

for those of you who can share some stuff.. you know your experiences with saunders, that'll be super!!!

well i will be taking mine for the second time in two weeks time and i know of couple of friends who used the Saunders only with the CD and passed but as for me i have started using Saunders and also exam cram. i used the Kaplan before now and did not pass too... i think you should be fine if the content was what you needed most... good luck and let me know how you did

ncsbn learning ext just 30-50dollars for review . its great concise and has some tips for the exam . its time tested my wife and i used it and all of her friends . we all passed .

NCLEX ABCDZ STRATEGY

A. Spend 1/3 of your time reviewing content you don't understand
B. Spend 2/3 of your time answering test question
C. Used most comfortable NCLEX review book for content.
D. Begin with the area that is most difficult for you or area that are least familiar
E. Use a good nursing reference manual or internet to find information
F. Define the disease in terms of pathophysiological process and understand the disease process.
G. Identify the early and late symptoms of disease
H. Identify most important or life-threatening complication associated with the disease.
I. Define the medical treatment.
J. Identify nursing intervention associate with early and late symptom of disease process
K. Identify what to teach patient and family to prevent in other to adapt to disease process.
L. list the area you need to review.
M. Answering question in a test mode will improve your test taking skills
N. Each time you answer question, check the number of question you answered correctly that will motivate you to read and study more next time.
O. Keep track of your score to see how you're improving in all area of your content.
P. If you answer less than 65% correctly, these is a WARNING SIGNAL!! Spend lots of time reviewing content and stop doing question on the weakest area
Q. If you answer 65-75% correctly your performance is improving and success is certain. Continue working with the content until your score is above 75%
R. Every wrong answer, identify why you answered it wrongly.
S. Practice 75- 85 question to known how you'll be prepared for NCLEX Exam and see how many you answered correctly
T. Do understand the question first, formulate your answer of hand and compare with the option given to see how close your answer!!
U. Anticipate Test question will increase in difficulty when you get the first question right!!
V. Do not panic if someone finishes before you!!
W. Do not CRAM CRAM!!
X. Remember that you have learned a great amount of nursing knowledge and the exam is only designed to determine whether you're able to practice safely @ entry level
Y. Keep a positive attitude and Pray!!

Personally I used anything that I could get my hands on, but that's just me! I passed my RN boards 09-24-09. Saunders 4th edition was my main book, but I also used exam cram, incredibly easy, and prioritization book by Lacharity. If you can't afford a lot of books and insist on owning one, I rec the Saunders,I suggest for freebies check your local library, you may be surprised at the resources you can find there. If you have buddies that passed with other books, ask them to loan to you. The link for the NCLEX 3500 still works, you just have to find it... I used it a week or so before my exam, and the link came from here. Practice the test questions and think about WHY you are choosing the answer you are choosing, it helps with application which is what you need to pass the NCLEX. I had 3-4 SATA, 5 meds, and rest were inf ctrl and prioritization/delegation,and patient teaching( i got 75 questions). DO what you must to continue to practice questions that make you apply what you already know-this is not a recall test, it's an application of knowledge to different situations.

wow the abcdz strategy post was good!

major advice guys: listen up:

retakers, STOP reading your notes! first timers, read about once then answer, answer and answer as MANY questions as you can! you know most of these stuff already from school, and a good foundation is important because that's what you'll remember during the test. you'll recall the interventions you did to a patient, what your teacher said, the content on your book comes least.

no one reviewer is good enough, super perfect or everything you need to pass. YOU NEED SEVERAL. saunders is good for content and comprehrension- but the q and a's not much because the questions are very easy. kaplan is good and needed but you should do this only a few weeks before your exam, as this is more on the strategies on how to answer questions. start with good q and a books- answer all questions and target good scores. if you can't just keep going.

THE REAL SECRET IN PASSING IS ANSWERING AS MANY QUESTIONS AS YOU CAN- because this way, you develop your test taking strategies on how to answer the exam correctly. this does not happen overnyt, by cramming, or a few weeks. it takes a while. months even. be patient and FOCUS.

and the other SECRET is prayers. you can't do this alone. you need HIM. all your efforts are nothing without His will.
