RN Nclex 265 questions!!!! Not again!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I just took my RN Nclex for the second time. It took me 5 hours . Stopped at 265 questions. Little did I know that I would be apart of the 265 club. My first attempt took me to 230 questions and I was near passing for each catagory. I really put my all into this and took all the breaks offered to me. I'm not sure how I am going to sleep for the next two days. If anyone has any experience with getting to the end of the exam or previous stories feel free to comment below.

Being that you hit the end of the questions, you have triggered the rule that evaluates the level of the last question you were asked. If that question is above passing standard, you pass. It's called the "Maximum-Length Exam Rule" and is the only time that your past 60 questions and 95% confidence interval are both disregarded. The computer determines your ability estimate for the final time and it's solely on that estimate that you pass or fail. Given that you went 265, once again you probably were very near passing standard throughout the entire exam, and even possibly slightly above passing standard. The problem is that when you're that close (above or below) to passing, the computer can't determine with 95% confidence that you'd pass or fail, thus you got asked another question until you hit 265.

Your best bet is to watch your state's BRN license website and see if you show up as being licensed, wait the 48 hours and pay the $8 for the Quick Results, or wait at least 24 hours and put $200 at risk for a third attempt at the exam. Given that you went 265, I'd wait the 2 days and pay the $8 to find out while checking for a license to show up online. No need to risk $200 at this point.

Thanks. I don't think I am going to risk $200. i just have to wait till Wednesday.

Good luck, good luck, good luck!!!

Thanks :) I did the PVT trick and got the good pop up so I will see what happens.

Since you've tried the PVT, try again at least 24 hours after the computer shut off on you. If you're still getting the good popup at that point, then you've very likely passed. Congrats for now though!

Just remember that if your results weren't scored that 2nd time when you attempted the PVT (and it won't tell you that), there's still a possibility that the 2nd scoring could change the result.

Still getting the good pop up. The waiting is nerve wracking.

I took my exam, and an hour later checked. I got the good popup and found out 48 hours after I passed via QuickResults.

Thats awesome. Hoping the same happens for me :)
