Retake the NCLEX

by flysky

Hello,

could you please explain me the whole procedure if you failed NCLEX for the first time.
I've applyed for licensure for the NY state. Do I have 45 days to retake the exam? How many times i can try to achieve success.
Thank you in advance!

Hi you can take the exam three times and if you failed on the 3rd time you have to take the course over again.I think you can take it for the 2nd time in two months.

Hi, nurseredcalifornia,
thank you for the reply. What kind of course do I have to take after 3rd time? Sorry I didn't get it?
One more guestion:
should I apply for the licesure one more time, or just register for the exam with Pearson again (pay 200 dollars) and stay with NY state?

Stay with NY, but you need to resubmit an application to them. And pay them. You will also need to apy the fee to Pearson-Vue.

You have to wait at least 45 days before you would be permitted to sit for the exam again. Some states are actually 90 days.

States vary with the amount of times that you can fail, before being required to retake a refresher program, or some type of remedial training. It is not mandatory after three attempts in all states. You do not have to retake the entire program again. Some students could have receive all "A"s in their program, but freeze up when taking the NCLEX exam.

Hope that this helps...................

Suzanne4,

thank you for your reply.
Hopefully, I have at least 3 months before I take the exam. But it's never late to know next steps in advance. Now I'm trying to refresh my knowledges with NCLEX-RN A&Q made incredibly Easy. Any other suggestions? I have time on my hand to change the book. I would appreciate you recomendations.

Thank you again!

what I was saying is that the 1st time you take and if you failed you have to wait I think 6-8 weeks before you can take it again and if on the 3rd time you fail you have to take the whole lvn course all over again Im in california so maybe that dosen't apply to where you are.

Each state has their own requirements for taking the exam again. That is the point that I was making.

And their is a difference in taking the exam for RN and PN exams. CA actually requires 90 days before a retake for the RN exam. The licenses for the LVN and the RN are actually handled completely separately and in two different offices.

Wow 90 days is a really long time until you can take the NCLEX again. I am applying for my NY state licensure as well.

Does anyone know how long you have to wait in Missouri to retake nclex rn? Do I just reapply with BON and testing service and wait for new ATT just like the first time? Thanks!
