Hi,

Does anyone know if you round your answers exp: the answer would come out to 62.5 ml/hr on an IV pump, would you type 63 or keep the 62.5 as your answer on the NCLEX?
We were taught in nursing school that you would round, but on one sample website with review questions they wanted 62.5 and not 63 ml/hr on an IV pump.

What I did (and I hope I wasn't wrong) was just put what they asked for. Most questions said answer to one decimal place but I had one question that specifically said to give the nearest whole number.

It will tell you what it wants from you. On both of mine it wanted my answer in WHOLE numbers.

I had several calculation questions on my exam and it tells you what it wants you to do. For example, it told me round your answer to a whole number and on two or three other questions, it said round to one decimal place. Hope that helps!

was it if the even number like 62 followed by .5 it is rounded as 62 (whole number) if it is followed by .51 that is 63. if odd number like 63 is followed by .5 it is rounded as 64? LOL...i hate math! made me really confused! good thing that my math wuestion in nclex asked about whole numers and 1 decomal place. the whole number's result is exactly the answer so no need for me to look for the nearest whole. I just got lucky I guess

I always learned that when rounding to whole numbers anything .5 and up goes to the next HIGHEST number regardless if it was an even or odd number before the decimal. So 62.5 would become 63

For rounding you look at the number to the RIGHT of the decimal. IT DOES NOT MATTER what the number is to the left of the decimal.
If you have 5 and up to the right then you round UP.
IF you have below 5 to the right then you round DOWN.
So, for example
63.5 or 63.6 or 63.7 or 63.8 or 63.9 all round to 64.
63.4 or 63.3 or 63.2 or 63.1 and 63.0 all round to 63.
Now, if they ask you to give the answer in tenths, here are some examples...
63.54 and 63.53 and 63.52 and 63.51 ALL round to 63.5
63.55, 63.56, 63.57, 63.58 and 63.59 ALL round to 63.6
