Phil BSn Grad and Ca nclex

If you check the International Forum/Advice on Immigration you will find many posts from graduates of Filipino nursing schools and their experiences with the CA board of registered nurses.

CA BRN has been enforcing the laws regarding concurrency of theory and clinical courses so many internationally educated nurses are being denied ATT/eligibility for licensure as an RN in CA (many Filipino but also other countries). If you check out the threads in the other forum you can read about the experiences of others.

I am a Phil.grad and waiting for my ATT in Ca...is there anyone out there in the same situation as I am?......any Phil. grads?

I am also a graduate from Philippines and my application for NCLEX-RN was denied here in California because of the concurrency issue. Good luck with your application! :)

but how come other Phil.Grads are made eligibil to take NCLEX in CA??

It's because most likely they applied prior to the April, 2010 (yes, 2010) that was before the very strict CA BON requirements of the concurrency issues or in some cases, lacking sufficient clinical hours or missing a course, that all of the PH colleges (including all the top 5 schools) are guilty of.

You can thank our own CHED, PRC and PNA for doing a terrible job.

The PH schools never adjusted the curriculum to meet the CA BON standards. The CA BON requirements have always been in their written rules since 1987 and just started to enforce it a couple of years ago. Let your PH batchmates know if they are still in school in PH. CA is no longer a place for overseas PH students.

The other option is to take the deficient courses in CA (but it means enrolling in near impossible classes or it will take extra money and more time, up to 18 months), you will trying for 1-2 open spots with 100's of other international students, just to take one course OR become a LVN in CA or try other states that do not have the concurrency requirement.

Some people are trying to get their ATT or actual RN license out of state then try to endorse into CA. It will NOT work as CA always ask for your college transcripts and if one can't pass in CA, it won't pass still even with a RN license somewhere else. Everything begins with where you got your education from.

The reason so many of us PH grads can't pass the NCLEX the first time or the 2nd time or the 3rd or more is that our clinicals is not near the state's standards. We were not given the experience in school to think things thru, to properly analyze a situation, etc. Thank you CHED, PRC and PNA for guiding us the wrong path.

It's a published FACT from our own CHED that in the past 2 years, PH grads taking our own NLE only 50% or less passed! That's one of the reasons many PH grads don't take the our local exam and now why states like CA wants to see that we can pass our own board, which I hear is easier than the NCLEX. Yes, I'm guilty too of not taking the NLE, but may do so.

My above comments also applies to both new grad and the more experienced RN nurses coming in from Australia, China, India, Nepal, Ireland and the UK, not just the PH's, as far as the CA BON minimum educational requirements of 1987 is concerned.
